That's GOVERNOR Dalton to you.
Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton is actually Gov. Dalton this week. Gov. Beverly Perdue is out of the state on vacation, and the state constitution (Article III, Sec. 3, paragraph 2) requires that the lieutenant governor serve as acting governor when the governor leaves the state.
"She's still in control," Dalton said, when asked about the temporary promotion.
Dalton said he is in regular contact with Perdue, who is vacationing at an undisclosed location after less than a month in office.
"With today's technology," Dalton said, "it's hard to be out of touch."
Perdue's office has applied the euphemism "working vacation" to the trip.
