Gov. Martin endorses Pittenger

Jim Martin has endorsed Robert Pittenger.

The former Republican governor endorsed the state senator's planned bid for lieutenant governor in a letter, the Charlotte Observer reports.

"Because of his business and Senate background, Robert Pittenger understands the workings of both the private and public sector," Martin writes. "He knows better than most legislators how an excessive burden of taxes and regulations can grind down many employers, to the ultimate detriment of our working people."

The Charlotte Republican, a three-term state senator, announced in November that he would not run again, though he has not formally announced his campaign for lieutenant governor.

Former Congressional candidate Greg Dority is also running on the GOP side.
