House Republicans are keeping a list of who is voting for taxes.
On committee votes dealing with taxes, Republicans have been taking the extra step of calling for individual votes to be recorded, rather than the usual majority-rules voice vote.
Rep. Paul Stam, an Apex Republican, and the House minority leader, said Repubilcans figure that state residents would want to know who raised their taxes. Earlier this week, Stam tried to remove a franchise tax on limited liability companies from the roster. The amendment failed 14 to 14.
The tax would unfairly punish people who hold property through an LLC, Stam said.
"We would like to send a letter when they get their tax bill," Stam said. "This is who you should thank for this tax."
