GOP activist-turned-Democrat pleads

Chris Mintz, a Republican activist who switched to the Democratic Party to run for office, pleaded guilty this month to embezzling more than a million dollars from two elderly clients.

Mintz, a financial advisor, is a former chairman of the Wake County Republican Men's Club. He switched to the Democratic Party in 2005 and ran unsuccessfully in that party's primary for the N.C. House of Representatives in district 41 against Ty Harrell, who resigned Sunday. Mintz considered a run for state treasurer in 2007.

Mintz, 34, pleaded guilty to fraud by an investment adviser on Sept. 9. He moved securities from his clients' accounts to his own, selling the securities and wiring the money to his personal account, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 7 in U.S. District Court in New Bern.

Concerned much?

Re: GOP activist-turned-Democrat pleads

Read the article - he was a DEMOCRAT!

I'm disappointed in Mark Johnson for writing this like a liberal hack. It's been almost 5 years since Mintz was registered as a Republican. The last one-third of his voting life has been as a Democrat.

I can tell you that from what I know, Mintz was merely a political opportunist (and, it seems, a financial opportunist as well). Apparently, the only reason he was a Republican to begin with was he thought he might have an opportunity to gain a seat in the General Assembly by attempting to become Russell Capps' heir-apparent. When that didn't work out for him, he took his toys and went home (to the democrat party).

Don't get me wrong, Republicans have their problems too. However, Mintz isn't one of them.

Mark Johnson should be ashamed of his title. It's the same as saying, "Single carouser-turned married parent..."

With Ty Harrell under investigation and the Mike Easley investigation ongoing, it's just not a good week for democrats. It brings up all the recent scandals involving Democrats here in NC:

  • Jim Black
  • Meredith Norris
  • Kevin Geddings
  • Frank Ballance
  • Garey Ballance
  • Meg Scott Phipps
  • Garland Garrett
  • Should I continue?

Why is it that media types like our good friend Mark Johnson feel compelled to overlook democrat corruption and try to paint every corruption as a Republican matter? I'm no Republican apologist, but shouldn't we be fair in dealing with the facts? Would anyone consider this to be unbiased journalism (or journalism at all)?

Kinda makes you ready for a change©, doesn't it?

It's almost like GOP activists just don't care how they make money. Tom Delay, Richard Nixon, Dallas Woodhouse, Paul Terrell, whatev!

Re: GOP activist-turned-Democrat pleads

Mintz became a Democrat in December 2005 – the same time he began embezzling from his clients’ accounts. This begs the question: did Mintz become a Democrat because he was a criminal, or did he become a criminal because he became a Democrat?

Black, Harrell, Mintz and Easley?

No surprise Mintz joined the party of Jim Black and Mike Easley.

Re: GOP activist-turned-Democrat pleads

kharma can be a biotch when you join the party of SLAVERY...

Re: GOP activist-turned-Democrat pleads

Now THIS is a double blink GOTCHA story for sure ...... Dems start to gloat then it hit's them between the eyes. ..... WHAMMO!
