Gary Pearce, veteran Democratic consultant, says it may not be such a bad thing to just let the GOP have state government for a while. The economy is in such bad shape, they will get the blame.
“Given the fiscal cliff facing the states, maybe it's not a bad time for Democrats to let Republicans own Raleigh,” Pearce writes in his blog Talking About Politics.
“Speaker Thom Tillis says Republicans already 'own' North Carolina's economy. If Pat McCrory wins and they keep the House and the Senate, they'll have sole ownership of the state budget. The State Budget Crisis Task Force, a nonprofit co-chaired by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and former New York Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch, says states face long-term budget burdens that could cripple their ability to pay for basic services such as law enforcement, local schools and transporation...And McCrory promises to cut taxes.'' July 23, 2012 - 8:17pm — WilmingtonDemocratWe let George W. run the country and look what happened. We still ain't dug out of the hole.
Lobbyist McCrory will be so busy letting his fellow lobbyists from Moore Van Allen run state government that the damage will be long lasting.
All you anti frackers that are mad at Walter Dalton, remember that Myers Park Pat's firm represents the American Petroleum Institute, (API.) If Myers Park Pat is Governor, API will be building the oil rigs off of Hatteras.
Really?
July 22, 2012 - 10:53am — Hockeydad92So I am sure I understand your logic? It is the last 2 years and the two terms of Jim Martin that have us in this mess? Cutting a budget for teachers that have been performing less and less on a national scale yet can't be measured on performance, a war on women and children in your mind and talking points? I don't see that war... Sending 4 year olds to the same nanny state under achieving schools that are slighting their older siblings, a slap in the face to eugenics survivors your bunch never bothered to square up with while in power and gutting the racial justice act that deals with everything but the actual facts of a case. Use statistics from some professor or government funded study to prove the guilt or innocence of a case? Really, justice is blind I guess as long as the outcome is what you want. And to say that the radicalism is on the republican side is just laughable. For many of the 120 plus year this state was run by dems it was controlled by conservative democrats that built much of what is great about NC today. I suspect most of those would have a hard time identifying with todays Obama / Soros brand of democrat that it sounds like you favor. The economy is in a mess because of many factors but liberal polices and more spending will not turn it around. Dumping more money in a broken public education system will not fix it either. I think it is time to try something new...
Gary Pearce advocates fiddling while NC burns
July 22, 2012 - 9:38am — MalleusMaleficarumPearce has forgotten the ravages of NC during the two terms of Jim Martin. Worse still, Pearce seems to have overlooked the devastation of NC in the last two years - gutting the budget for schools; an outright war on women and children; the loss of 3400 teachers; a tax cut for the rich; elimination of tobacco prevention; restrictions on at-risk 4-year olds now locked out of pre-Kindergarten programs; a "slap in the face of eugenics survivors" and the gutting of the Racial Justice Act. While Pearce is fiddling and advocating throwing the 2012 election to the Republicans, why doesn't he advocate throwing the presidential election as well? Why does Pearce want to restrict Republican radicalism to North Carolina alone? If the Pearce boomerang effect is so appealing why doesn't Gary Pearce just say that a Mitt Romney presidency would be good for the USA? In fact, his business partner, Carter Wrenn, would have no problem with that one, but a few million voters might have a different idea.
American folktales are still relevant today
July 22, 2012 - 9:25am — inandohDid Gary base this theory of his on Brer Rabbit?
"Drown me! Roast me! Hang me! Do whatever you please," said Brer Rabbit. "Only please, Brer Fox, please don't throw me into the briar patch."
But I must agree. The Democrats have had state government for what?.......... 122 years or so? So it might not be bad to let the Republicans have a 122 years or so. Then we can compare.
