Frye gets behind Lewis for Senate

Former N.C. Chief Justice Henry Frye has agreed to be honorary co-chairman of Kenneth Lewis' U.S. Senate campaign.

Lewis, a Durham attorney, was a law clerk for Frye, who was the first African-American to head North Carolina's judicial system, Rob Christensen reports.

"When I first met Kenneth over 20 years ago," Frye said, "he was a smart, idealistic young lawyer determined to use his legal training to break down the barriers to educational and economic opportunity facing communities across North Carolina."

'"Kenneth's legal career, as a business and community development lawyer, is a long record of using the law to find common ground between the private sector and the non-profit community," Frye said. "His experience in community development, coupled with his expertise in business law, makes Kenneth uniquely qualified to represent North Carolina in the U.S Senate."

Lewis is the first Democrat to enter the 2010 race for the seat held by Republican Sen. Richard Burr. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall has formed an exploratory committee. Other Democrats looking at the race include former state Sen. Cal Cunningham of Lexington, Congressman Bob Etheridge of Lillington, former Lt. Gov. Dennis Wicker of Sanford, and Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy.

Re: Frye gets behind Lewis for Senate

Not an unfounded accusation, SonofWS.

From Self-Help's site: "Founded the Center for Responsible Lending, an affiliated nonprofit research and policy organization dedicated to curbing predatory lending."

ACORN money does indeed go to Self-Help - google it yourself. I'm not about to post links anymore - the sites will disappear, just like my comments will soon, and just like stories mysteriously disappear. ACORN is a giant money-laundering enterprise, and even the so-called mainstream media is going to have to start covering its implosion.

So are you going to make some phone calls & get sites cleaned up, WS?

Re: Frye gets behind Lewis for Senate

Little early in the race to start tossing out unfounded accusations isn't it? Saying he is tied to ACORN is like claiming that all Republicans work for oil companies. ACORN clearly needs a good house cleaning, but that has nothing to do with Kenneth.

Re: Frye gets behind Lewis for Senate

All of you, including Marshall, Etheridge, et al, are missing the most important point - President Obama has anointed Kenneth Lewis as our next Senator, and so it will be. Why Etheridge would even have a little fantasy of running for the Senate seat is a complete mystery.

Lewis went to law school with Michelle Obama, and met the future president before he ran for Senator - Lewis has been a fundraiser for Obama for decades.

Lewis also has a personal history that resonates with many people - he emphasizes his African-American identity (he's had many "firsts", and he says his great-grandmother was a slave on a plantation). He & his family went door-to-door in many communities and worked to register people to vote. And he sits on the board of The Center for Community Self-Help - DING DING DING - another ACORN money pass-through organization.

Now how many Republicans do you think ACORN registers to vote? Can you say RICO????

N&O, where's your investigative journalism when it comes to ACORN in NC?

He's clean and articulate!

Re: Frye gets behind Lewis for Senate

Burr, Marshall, Cunningham, Etheridge, Wicker and Foy are career politicians.

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies die in or retire from office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose.

Looks like Mr. Lewis is a step in the right direction.

Kenneth is a truly inspiring man. He is even keeled and extremely intelligent. His is just the kind of temperament we need in DC right now. Being an unaffiliated voter and a small business owner, I was really impressed with his clear understanding of balance between public needs and the desire of small business not to be unfairly overburdened. He really gets it and I am looking forward to him being our next US Senator.
