Etheridge on gay marriage and taxes

Bob Etheridge skirted two difficult issues on his first day as a Democratic candidate for governor.

Etheridge, a former congressman, declined to take a position on the constitutional amendment banning same sex marriages that will appear on the ballot in May, saying it is an issue that he will have to deal with later.

“The nice thing is, it is before the people and they will make the decision,” Etheridge said a news conference in front of state Democratic headquarters. “I always believe the people in the state make the right decision.”

He also declined to endorse a proposal by Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue to raise the sales tax three-fourths of a cent, although he admonished the Republican legislature for repealing it last year.

“They shouldn't have done away with it,” Etheridge said.

“They (the schools) are going to need resources,” Etheridge said. “That is going to be the thing that the legislature is going to have to deal with when it comes to town.”

Etheridge on the wrong side of Ellmers again

Even Renee Ellmers announced her opposition to Amendment One months ago - specifically because it would ban civil unions.

And Bob Etheridge doesn't have the guts to at least take that same position?

Find a better sound bite, Bob.  Democratic party primary voters will leave you in the dust.

Vote AGAINST Amendment One.

Etheridge is clearly against gay marriage

Breaking party ranks, Etheridge voted for a proposed federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in 2004 and 2006.

Not sure how this will sit with Democratic primary voters.

Stop torturing the poor doddering old fool

Come on guys. Stop asking him gotcha questions. The poor doddering old fool is going to have enough problems with people playing "Who Are You" by the Who on their iPods during his campaign appearances. And now you want to put him on the spot by asking him devisive political questions? That's just not fair.

If he was capable of basic logic or reason, he wouldn't have decided to run for Gov. It's probably a sign of his impending senility that he ran. Either that or a desperate desire to be the sacrificial lamb come the slaughter of November.

Be kind to your elders. Stop torturing him with pertinant and relevant questions.
