U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers has been named to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
It’s a big appointment for the second-term Republican congresswoman from Dunn. She was re-elected on Nov. 6.
Committee chairman Fred Upton announced her selection Thursday night. Ellmers issued a statement on Friday:
"I am truly honored by this appointment to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Chairman Upton has led this committee with honor and distinction over the past two years and I am humbled by the privilege to serve with him as we work to grow our economy and address the important issues facing our country.
“By serving on this committee, I am determined to represent the various interests throughout the state of North Carolina and be an influential voice on behalf of my constituents. The North Carolina Republican delegation has a proud history of consecutive representation on this committee in recent years from Richard Burr to Sue Myrick and I am proud to continue this legacy.
“I would like to thank Chairman Upton for his confidence in me and I look forward to working with all my fellow committee members during the 113th Congress."
