E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Elizabeth Edwards says she expects that her husband, former presidential candidate John Edwards, will take a test to determine the paternity of the child born to his former mistress, Rielle Hunter.

“My expectation is that at some point, something happens," Elizabeth Edwards said during an appearance Wednesday night on CNN’s Larry King Live. "I hope that for the sake of this child, that it happens in a quiet way."

Edwards, who appeared on the show to discuss health care, also talked about her family life, reports Rob Christensen.

"Things are going fine,” she said. “We're getting the children ready for the new school year. Everything is going smoothly at my house."

As for her ongoing battle with cancer, she told King: "The numbers don't look that optimistic, but I feel good."

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Yes, Elizabeth Edwards was on tv to talk about health care. That said, she could have easily told Larry King when he asked about her personal life, something to the effect of "I'm here to talk about an important issue for all Americans, health care, not my personal life." A totally acceptable response. But, Elizabeth Edwards love the limelight and she quite obviously relishes talked about her personal life. The problem with the Edwards is that they made their personal story, including her own battle with cancer, part of their public life. They did it, because they know that a lot of people are suckers for a sad story like losing your son or facing a terrible health crisis. It was a way to get more people on their side and behind Edwards as a candidate.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

sarahsinger says: "Sky is incorrect stating EE has not been out debating healthcare. She does it on a regular basis, a couple times a month" What special expertise in health care does EE have - she would never have been heard at all except for the fact that she's married to a former US senator. All she does is parrot ObamaCare. So that's news?

Glad you're familiar with her schedule. Maybe you could get the N&O to publish it so we can all be enthralled by the next installment of the Edwards soap drama, since EE's speaking engagements strangely coincide with new stories involving Rielle Hunter. Any fool knows that the timing of her interview by Larry King was planned purposely to counter the story that JE was moving Rielle to Wilmington.

As much as I've criticized JE for the arrogant louche liar that he is, she's not pure & innocent either - she's his enabler. She should take a lesson from Jenny Sanford - at least she has some class & character, despite her husband going on a loony mid-life crisis & throwing away his career, his reputation, and his family.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

The public is too hard on politicians and their loose moral values. Morality should be separated from politics. What is wrong with a politician who engages in adultery. The adultery laws are outdated. Same sex marriage has put an end to all those old ideas. Many politicians spend their time in office slinking around on the sly trying to cut deals. So why should they not slink around with other sex partners. We need to give up on the whole idea of marriage and just have fun. High moral values are for whimps. If it feels good then do it. We need to quit pretending that our nation has high moral values and just do what comes naturally. And get off John's case. He was just having some fun. The sick people are the ones who cannot understand this!

Edwards: "Things are going fine, but the whole cancer thing"

As for her ongoing battle with cancer, she told King: "The numbers don't look that optimistic, but I feel good."

The Republican response on HealthCare reform was as expected.

Who gives a rats behind!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not you, Burr or the Insurance Special Interests that fund him I'm guessing do give a "rat's behind," but thank you for your civil input on the challenges facing real Americans.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

All those who actually watched Elizabeth on Larry King know she was on the show to debate health care with Tommy Thompson. I thought it was inappropriate of Larry to even ask the personal questions in the last 30 seconds but am not surprised by the reactions on this thread implying it was 30 minutes of personal Edwards q and a. Let's at least be honest about her reason for being there!

Sky is incorrect stating EE has not been out debating healthcare. She does it on a regular basis, a couple times a month. Did you read the article about her appearing before Congress a few weeks ago discussing the effect of health expenses on bankruptcies? No, probably not.

YOU on this thread are perpetuating this story as much as the National Enquirer. Get your own lives and watch your own steps.

One of the concerns about politicians not being faithful to their spouses is they have an obvious lack of self-control, and we do not need people like this passing laws which legislates to the rest of us of what is right and what is wrong when they themselves do not have the fortitude to control their own morality. Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Or you could just say: They can't even run their own life, I'll be damned if they'll run mine.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Isn't it funny that the one who has displayed the most class since this story broke is Rielle Hunter.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

You were dumb enough to give that guy money?

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

I'm not fan of them at all, but I feel sorry that she has to end her life this way. There is a special place in heaven for her, I'll say that. Who knows when she found out, b/4 the cancer or after. If it was after, it was simply too late for her to divorce him and take everything. So she just let things ride. But I feel sorry for all those kids.

I hope they won't grow up to be the arrogant jerk their father is. North Carolina is finally ashamed of Johnny Edwards, something we conservatives have known all the time.

I don't understand why men can't stay away from temptation, but as we learn in church, that is the harder path to take. It takes a special person to avoid temptation and certain people, including Republicans and Democrats, just can't keep their pants zipped.

I tell my husband that I'm so honored that I have him. But sadly, he's the best of a bad lot...men.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

When they find him guilty, I sure hope they make him give refunds. I want mine back.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

The other mother and the other child in a double wide? What a price of a man this Johnny Reid Edwards is.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

You'd have the mother of all sex scandals right down on Burke Square if anybody had the guts to print it. But they don't, so you won't.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Elizabeth deserves more privacy and respect ????? Are you kidding me?
Who is holding a gun to her head making her do all these TV interviews? Get out of the public eye. Staying off Oprah and Larry King will help for starters. She's pathetic. She will get some respect when she earns some respect and finds some self respect. Memo To Liz: Since you are a lawyer too,.....(although probably not an ambulance chaser like "Pretty Boy", Take half of what John Edwards is worth plus 5 million..... which is half what your house is worth, pack up you stuff, get out of Dodge and enjoy what's left of your life somewhere else....or work it out with "Lover Boy" in private, ....or shut the hell up and live with it. We're tired of hearing your public whining. What happened to you, happens everyday.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

This was just another staged appearance by Elizabeth. It's not unlike that pathetic Oprah appearance. Elizabeth says "she expects" he'll take a paternity test, but we all know it's already been done. The handwriting is on the wall. With all the gossip flying around lately about this, it's just the Edwards' way of appearing like they're in control of the situation.

John Edwards has really crashed and burned, hasn't he? And I was one of the fools who actually believed in the man and supported him at one time. To think of the money I donated to his campaigns makes me ill.

Although I'm terribly sorry about her medical situation, I don't have a whole lot of respect for Elizabeth anymore. I think she's always worn the pants in the family and I believe she's just as calculating as he has been. We certainly know she's smarter than he. She treats him like another one of her children.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Ah, Saint Elizabeth just can't stay off the airways, telling King "I hope that for the sake of this child, that it happens in a quiet way." Now, isn't that ironic? Liz is professing that she wants things to be done quietly for the sake of the child previously known as "it" on national tv. Can't this lady just shut up and quit going public with her family's rather tattered dirty laundry. Also, wish Liz would take a lesson from the ever so much classier Jenny Sanford. Note that in her interview, Sanford doesn't imply that it was the rival's fought or that the rival was classless as Liz described Rielle. Jenny places the blame squarely on hubby and says the rival is attractive. Liz, maybe you should use some of your bucks to hire Sanford's communications consultant IF you continue to insist on being so very public?

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Elizabeth Edwards is very much a lady who is deserving of some respect. I am sick of hearing her asked about her husband. The story is well known; give the lady a break and quit asking. Why drive it into the dirt? She has stage IV cancer and deserves more privacy and respect. It is a family matter unless something is found to be wrong with the handling of campaign money and it was not Elizabeth Edwards who has to answer to this. Just think, if it were you, would you want to be constantly reminded and asked the questions that have been put to Elizabeth Edwards? There are also innocent children involved. Just say John Edwards is a dog and leave it at that.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

SAD, is all I can say for the situation.

John Edwards is a low life just like Bill Clinton or Jesse Jackson or the rest of these low life scumbag hustler's.

It's all a facade, None of this matters in the end.

Like Al Gore inventing the internet as he says, Please, as if!

None of these criminals invented anything, look at history!

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Is his mistress the lady putting in the big doublewide at the end of the street? Wooo - weee! Its a big-un, and purty too!

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Bless her heart ..... Lizzie also has never been told that John dropped out of Dem Prez race. She thought he was campaigning in Iowa for the past year. News travels kind of slow thru Carrboro.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Why hasn't paternity already been established? Is he saving up to pay for the test? As usual, it's still all about John Edwards who is so in love with John Edwards that nothing else matters, and his wife hopes it all happens in a quiet way???? Nothing about this crowd happens in a quiet way. He's a failed political candidate, former ambulance chaser, and cheating husband who knocked up his girlfriend and Elizabeth is a house wife fighting cancer. Nothing all that unusual there. ! Why do TV people keep booking them? They are not news. They are not even relevant.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

The national media has been drooling of Gov. Sanford from South Carolina but you have an actual President and Vice President candidate and former US Senator having a kid with another woman while his wife was home sick with cancer.....Hardly covered at all. Where are the national news stories about Gov. Easley and current Gov. Perdue improperly using state planes and improper use of planes that should have been considered campaign violations.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Atila, please, and he never went to Rome.

Maybe someone told Mr. Edwards what I kept telling my boys as the core of my sex education for them: "You create it, you educate it. Otherwise, keep your pants zipped." Of course, now I wonder why I don't have any grandchildren.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Every thing is fine.... Just fine. How are you? We're doing fine.

Hubby is moving his mistress here so he can have a relationship with his illegitimate love child. Just the love child. He's not going to spend any time with her, you know the woman who he conceived said love-child with... All Fine... Good times...

Where are those Obama Pain Pillz(tm)?

E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

That is what the Romans said when Alita the Hun arrive at the Gates of Rome!

"Things are going fine,” she said.

Super! Now are Elizabeth, Rielle, John, and their love child going to sit together at UNC football games this fall?

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

And the news element in this article is?
maybe the N&O is trying to scoop the Enquirer instead of behaving like a NEWSPAPER>

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

Who gives a rats behind!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

tired... old drama.....

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

The tribulations of the super-rich have *nothing* to do with reality.

Re: E. Edwards: "Things are going fine"

" ... Edwards said during an appearance Wednesday night on CNN’s Larry King Live. "I hope that for the sake of this child, that it happens in a quiet way .... Edwards, who appeared on the show to discuss health care ..."

Then why is she on national TV talking about it! She hasn't even been out on the circuit speechifying about HC in some time. Just an excuse (which the N&O is buying into - and where is that story, btw?) to counter the story on Rielle moving to Wilmington, so JE can actually act like a father and get involved in his child's life.

Yeah, just what we need - another rich liberal elitist who lives like a queen, telling us ignorant masses what we need to do - redistribute wealth to create the liberal's dream world, without tort reform of course (another subject that I bet didn't get addressed). I also doubt that Larry King asked her about her husband's failure to fund his pledges to that college program in Greene county or to the Katrina victims.

The fact that she has cancer is terrible - but cancer happens to rotten people & wonderful people - and all kinds in between. She doesn't get a pass because she has cancer.
