Edwards to speak publicly again

Now that the election is over, former presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. John Edwards is ready to appear in public again.

Tomorrow night, Edwards is scheduled to speak at Indiana University on the election results. The lecture is open to the public and will be followed by a question-and-answer session, according to the university's public relations office.

It's probably safe to say Edwards won't be answering questions about his personal life. It's also probably safe to say Edwards isn't planning a move to Washington to be part of an Obama administration.

In August, Edwards admitted an extramarital affair with a woman who filmed a series of videos for his presidential campaign. Since then, he has kept a very low profile, canceling speeches and staying out of sight.

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

Why would anyone pay good money to hear John Edwards speak?

Wasn't ripping off hundreds of thousands of hard-working campaign contributors enough?

Who cares what he has to say?

He needs to be a man, come forward and acknowledge his infant daughter.

I hope Elizabeth Edwards is making his life a living hell.

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

Never said I cared for McCain at all. Just think it says it all that Edwards cheated on his terminally ill wife and still somehow hopes to be publicly influential. I still wouldn't put it past him to try for the Senate against Burr in 2 years.

Only YOU could bring up "liberal weannies" and I mean that.

BTW, new rest stop opening on 220 in a few days. Wink, wink, jesmyopinion.

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

Oh Goody .... another round of "The Edwards .... Where are they today and what are they doing."

Howabout a whole N&O section dedicated to John, Elizabeth, Crystal Mangum and Randy Parton. I bet that would generate enough new subscribers to save the N&O.

Re: One really good thing about Jon Edwards?

He has very nice hair. That's all I could think of.

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

Senator John has been a modern day Paul Revere. I remember his July 2007 Coopers Union speech where he tried, oh so gently, to prepare us for what has happened, the collapse of our nation's financial instutions. Edwards, proposed the following solutions:

"First, I will create a Family Savings and Credit Commission to make sure that financial services treat families safely.

...It will deal with all financial services ...It will ban the most abusive terms and make sure consumers understand the others.

...pass strong national laws protecting us against the worst abuses in credit markets predatory mortgages, abusive credit card terms, and payday loans with interest rates of 300 percent or higher.

Finally, I will help create alternatives to abusive lenders. I will help working families build up a cushion by matching their savings and bringing bank accounts to the 56 million without them. And I will support non-profit groups offering affordable, short-term loans. We need a new era of responsible lenders who see families as long-term investments, not quick bucks.

All across the economy, we need to do the same thing take on the special interests and put Washington back on the side of regular families. "

John Edwards (unlike many of the others who are now trying to scratch and claw there way into a Presidential Cabinet post) has over the last two years shown that he understands the problems that lay ahead for this country, and
he would be an intelligent and competent
addition to the President Obama's Administration.

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

There are many liberal weannies out there who will still believe his lies - they will never learn...

er . . : quetou

Lookah, I thought soap and water was a kind offer. Some would have offered tar and feathers. I'm among those who wants to see him succeed, but the boy needs to get good and clean.

It will take some scrubbing, but it's doable.

Those "country bumpkins" you're alluding to went back to sharpening knives and selling beanie babies on Ebay. Supporting Republicans on the Internet is a seasonal job. Like wrapping wedding gifts at Target.

STOP BEING MEAN TO DEAD ENDERS! WE MAY NEED PAT MCCRORY ONE DAY TO CHANGE OUR DIAPERS!

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

Wait.....didn't most of you country bumpkins just recently vote for a man that admitted to several affairs after returning from Vietnam? Wow, are we becoming the hypocrite-put-our-foot-in-our-mouth state or what? Are we a country of forgiveness? Well most of the Grand White Party forgave John McCain. Are we implying that God was around in the seventies but has been taking a few decades off lately?

We talked about what a hero McCain is for his 5 and a half years and how great his character was, but then he goes on more dates than Lance Armstrong, while married...yet you poo'd in your pants for him! Did he need a hot bath & soap for him to run for president? Or does your little conservative brains not go back more than 10 years?

Re: who cares?

I guess his house still wasn't big enough to put space between him and Elizabeth after the affair went public. I for one hope Edwards never again holds public office. He did nothing for NC as Senator besides make trips to Iowa and New Hampshire to run for president. Maybe he and Bill Clinton could write a dating book, just a suggestion.

I care

I am curious, intrigued, and all full of caring about Edwards speaking in public again.

I don't think it will put him on the road to resurrecting his political career, but maybe it will be the start of his being able to contribute meaningfully to the public good, somehow.

(I'm a sucker for those old phoenix rising from the ashes scenarios.)

who cares?

Exactly!

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

Who cares?

Re: Edwards to speak publicly again

The thing with Edwards is that he went down so badly, so utterly, awfully, awfully that it's impossible not to want to see him redeemed. Kinda like, oh geez, you're such a MESS. Please, here, here's a hot bath and soap and stuff.

See what you can do.

I wish him the best.
