Edwards endorses Obama

John Edwards has officially endorsed Barack Obama.

The former presidential candidate made a surprise appearance with Obama in Grand Rapids, Mich., as the Illinois senator campaigns in a critical general election battleground state, the Associated Press reports.

Edwards, who received a thunderous ovation when Obama introduced him to a crowd of several thousand, said, "brothers and sisters, we must come together as Democrats" to defeat Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

"We are here tonight because the Democratic voters have made their choice, and so have I," he said.

He said Obama "stands with me" in a fight to cut poverty in half within 10 years. Obama later said that he would support the effort.

Edwards also praised Clinton, saying "we are a stronger party" because of her involvement, and "we're going to have a stronger nominee in the fall because of her work."

Re: Edwards endorses Obama

The timing of Edward's endorsement says it all. He wants either the VP slot or a position in the democratic nominees cabinet. What a empty suit!

Thanks John Edwards! Now, if we can only get Gov Mike Easley to come into the light.
