Edwards doesn't want to be deposed in sex tape case

John Edwards does not want to be deposed this month in a case involving a purported sex tape.

The two-time presidential candidate is asking that his scheduled June 20 deposition wait until after criminal proceedings against him conclude, according to the Associated Press. Edwards said in court papers filed Thursday that he wants the delay to protect his right to a fair trial and against self-incrimination.

Edwards is a witness in a privacy lawsuit that mistress Rielle Hunter filed against former Edwards campaign aide Andrew Young. Hunter contends Young improperly took what is believed to be a sex tape that includes Edwards.

Edwards is charged with improperly using campaign money to keep Hunter out of the public eye as he pursued the White House. He says he is innocent.

Sex Tape

Edwards is wanting the sex tape hearing to wait until after the criminal hearing.   I don't find that unusual and any lawyer would request the same thing.  You don't testify at one trial before your own trial comes up.  But this is so much about nothing in the grand scheme of things.  Either he used campaign money or he didn't.   Sarah Palin used $150,000 for clothes for the hubby, kids and herself and barely a whisper was uttered.  Many others have used campaign money as well like McDonnell who lived and paid rent from her campaign funds.  Again, nothing more said of that.  Others have simply paid the money back with no further ado about it.  From John they want to give him a felony and 5 years in prison?  He could have paid any monies back 5 times over with what it cost him in lawyers to fight this but since they are out for blood in this case, he needs to fight this to keep his law license.

I was deposed once.  I

I was deposed once.  I didn't WANT to be deposed, but nobody told me I had a right to decline.  Does Johnny have rights that the rest of us aren't aware of?

He needs to take himself right on down there and answer the questions or go to jail for comtempt.  I believe those were my options, and they should be his.

I'll bet...

John Edwards' loser brother is LOVING the trouble his brother is in!

Correction

second para, first sentence from:

The two-time presidential candidate is asking that his scheduled June 20 deposition wait until after criminal proceedings against him conclude, according to the Associated Press.

should read:

The two-timing presidential candidate is asking that his scheduled June 20 deposition wait until after criminal proceedings against him conclude, according to the Associated Press.

I'm a bit confused; I thought he had been deposed once

On Feb. 14, 2011, a  reporter for The Huffington Post wrote: "Two-time presidential candidate John Edwards has testified under oath in a lawsuit over a videotape that purportedly depicts him in a sexual encounter, an attorney for a former Edwards aide said.

Robert Elliot said Edwards was deposed last week as part of a dispute between former Edwards aide Andrew Young and Edwards mistress Rielle Hunter. Elliot declined to discuss the content  of the testimony."

In the past, THP has stated "according to the News & Observer," but it wasn't in the Feb. 14 article. Surely, if they had the information, the N&O would know that if he's already testified once, this would be a second deposition.

Did it mention whether this was the original or the second deposition in the court papers? If so, why not put that in the blog?

It NEVER Ends With This Guy

Edwards' MISTRESS filed the suit - when she/he KNEW criminal charges were a real possibility - and that testimony as a "witness" in the civil suit might complicate a criminal trial.

And we know Reille isn't paying the lawyers.

It never ends.  Lawyers in this state can do any stupid/self-serving thing they want to do and get a wholesale pass.

Why should he benefit now from his own actions?  Andrew Young (a witness in the criminal trial) has provided testimony under Oath - which Edwards' defense team will try to pick apart.  What makes Johnny Reid so special?

Oh, and there's a really easy way to avoid perjury charges (on top of everything else).  DO NOT LIE.  Can't help with the self-incrimination.  But that horse is pretty much out of the barn anyway.
