Easley: Pass stimulus plan soon

Gov. Mike Easley is urging the state's Congressional delegation to pass a stimulus plan.

In a letter to North Carolina's 13 U.S. representatives and two senators, Easley said they should complete and pass a stimulus package as soon as possible.

"I am writing to urge you to move ahead, without delay or waiting for the new Congressional session, to pass an economic stimulus package to enable North Carolina, and other states, to move ahead with infrastructure projects that are ready to go," he writes. "Congress cannot wait until next year to deal with a national crisis that continues to worsen."

Easley also notes in the letter that the national economy lost half a million jobs last month, while North Carolina is "beginning to see the job lossess in big numbers."

He says that the state is "ready to go" on more than $5 billion in transportation projects alone.
