Gov. Mike Easley is testifying.
On the way into the hearing room, Easley told reporters anything he would say would be from the witness chair.
"No comments. I'll make them in here," Easley said.
He was sworn at 9:33 a.m. and reminded board members that he appointed some of them.
"I do appreciate the board serving," Easley said. "Since I had the privilege of appointing some of you, I wanted to say I appreciate your service."

As I said the first time, can't we just sentence him to life in prison with Jim Black and get on with it?
We all know Democrats take free air plane rides, like we all know Republicans fondle boys, have affairs and lie to Congress.
It's statistics.

October 28, 2009 - 11:14am — j1c2kpcmheath mentions the pay to play but another thing that always bothered me was when a state director of let's say the division of water quality would say, "I serve at the pleasure of the governor", that always bothered me because I wondered besides the fact that person was appointed by the governor what exactly was expected of him by the governor for that cushy job...
Seems like way too much pleasure going on in Raleigh.

How arrogantly creepy can one get?
As I have been listening to this, it renews the anger and disgust that I first felt years ago when I began organizing citizens who want the annexation laws reformed. From the very beginning, I would be told by people in politics that we (the people) would have to "pay to play" in order to get the legislature to respond to the calls for changes to the law.
My response has always been that if I ever started handing out money to legislators in order to get their support on the issue, I would set up a flashing red light outside the GA's front door where they could come and get the money.
