Easley got coastal discount

Gov. Mike Easley and his wife, Mary, accepted a $137,000 discount on a coastal waterfront lot they bought in 2005, months after Easley's administration granted environmental permits to the developer of the Carteret County subdivision.

Easley did not report the 25 percent price break from R.A. North Development, on his state ethics disclosure forms; and his closing attorney, the mayor of Beaufort, did not report the discounted price on the deed registered with the county. It was recorded at the original sales price of $549,880.

The closing documents, obtained by The News & Observer, contradict what Easley's representatives have said for years. In 2006, while Easley was still in office, his spokeswoman Cari Boyce said the Easleys didn't get a special deal. "The governor paid the listed asking price for the lot," she said at the time. "The price was set and non-negotiable." (N&O)

Re: Easley got coastal discount

How does Cari Boyce feel about this? Did she know or was she used???

Re: Easley got coastal discount

Beverly has been mighty quiet about all of this. I am curious as to the political contributions and/or flights and/or special deals that she has received from McQueen Campbell, Randy & Gary Allen and Lanny Wilson over the years. Perhaps a few of them are even on her bus in China & Japan. Come to think of it, has she even announced who is going on the trip with her and/or funding some of its expenses? They have pretty good access to her...

Wow, talk about a smoking gun! The sad part is this is business as usual in state government and goes to show you can't legislate ethics any more than morals. I'm disgusted with Easley's generation who's greed has driven the global economy to the brink of collapse. Humanity is incapable of self-governance. The United States was an experiment in democracy which may yet fail, when the takers out number the contributors, and the Easley's definitely number among the takers. How's it feel, Mike, salary wasn't enough, or was everybody doing it?
