Dole: Reject third-party ads

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole again called on her opponent to reject third-party ads.

During a debate in Atlantic Beach today, the Salisbury Republican repeated her challenge to state Sen. Kay Hagan to tell outside groups not to run ads in North Carolina.

"I hope she agrees to this proposal because it's the right thing to do for North Carolina voters," she said.

Dole first made the proposal in late April, saying she asked the state and national Republican parties and the National Republican Senatorial Committee to stay out of the the race. (Dole previously headed the committee, which helps GOP Senate candidates around the country.)

Hagan did not respond during the debate to the proposal.

Ironically, Dole has taken more heat from her own side so far. The free-market Club for Growth spent $250,000 on radio and television spots around the May primary attacking Dole over her support for a global warming bill
