Dole has new TV ad on Godless Americans

Dole is just doing herself in with the attack ads. Her do-nothing record in Congress speaks for itself. She should be replaced in any event.

Hagan has been smearing Dole from day one and Dole finally jumps in the mud with her and the liberal media and those who think politicians should just play nice at all costs, raise a ruckus. I don't know what the whole truth is about that ad. If Dole's operatives are totally in the wrong, then it will work against her so why waste your time criticizing her. She's doing herself in. If Dole's operatives are right, then it will work in her favor.
Another thing, many says they want the candidates to talk about the issues but most only pick up on slogans and don't truly understand or study the issues. Negative advertising generally works - and if it's true,there's nothing wrong with it. Politics ain't softball - get use to it.

I am so sad for Elizabeth Dole. But I am even more sad for those of you whom she has called "so called christians" that have already cast your vote for her in the early voting option. I myself am in the ranks of those she is calling "Godless", but I didn't vote for her. In my opion she is the one that is "Godless" and I do pray that she is defeated in this and any other election she may decide to run in. What North Carolina, or any other state in this counrty does not need is elected officials that will run our country's business with such bias views!! She clearly does not stand for what is best for the our people as a whole!

And who made the southern baptist the judge and jury, and when did GOD tell you "Ms. dole" that we are all going to hell?

Furthermore, I didn't know our Lord and Savior had a title other than, Lord and Savior! Jesus Christ,SB (Southern Baptist) ?!?!?! That's a new one on me! I was raised in the southern baptist church and left it just because of their total intolerance of people. Christ accepted all who accepted him. If all that are going to be in heaven is the southern baptist, and people like Dole...

Not a flame, it just honestly doesn't seem like apples to apples to me. If Kay went up there and actually did *not* take the money and instead witnessed and professed her strong faith and attempted to win these folks for Christ, I'll immediately agree that Dole is wrong and say that Kay did the right thing...

It may come as a shock to some so called Christians but there are some absolute standards. Tolerance is fine but sanctioning or legitimizing sinfulness is not what Christians do. Love the sinner but hate the sin. When you see these mainline churches declaring "Open Hearts and Open Minds", what they are really saying is that anything goes. Do whatever you wish and it is OK with us. We will not hold you to any standard. We will sanction gay marriages, gay ministers or whatever. I left the Presbyterian Church and joined the Southern Baptists. The hierarchy in the Presbyterian and other mainline churches are borderline agnostics and are preoccupied with "social causes" to the exclusion of personal salvation. I would get mad just reading the denominational newsletter and it's advocacy of left wing causes including the legal defense of people like Angela Davis. It is easier I suppose to belong to a liberal denomination because there are no standards of behavior expected short of murder or child molestation. I could not take it anymore and could not send any more money to support these so called causes.

I actually agree with removing 'god we trust' from money, and I don't think government schools are good for anything. But as a politician, Hagan is just showing herself to be clueless. This was a stupid donation to accept, and she's gonna lose, probably rightly so. Not for not being christian, but for not understanding that this would happen.

You just have to love people who "Know" what their god would do in any given situation. Not much of a god if self absorbed narcissists can project their beliefs on how it would act. My G-D knows more than I do and therefore I can't second-guess what it would do.

To decide, of your own free will, to be charitable is wonderful, to be forced to "do deeds" is an abomination.

The election is not for a religious position within a church. It is for a position in the government of the United States of America, a nonsectarian entity with it's own set of laws, one of which is the separation of religion and government. It's the law, why do we forget that. This position is required to represent all of its constituents regardless of belief, or the lack of it. If you can't do that you shouldn't run for the position.

Did you hear Hagan on WPTF, Bill Lumaye show? She was clueless, and dodged questions BIG time. The Libertarian gets my vote!

Amen!!! Thank God there are positive and kind Christians that respond to these negative attacks. Christ was inclusive and not exclusive. He was also smart and welcoming. I also think that Christ would have been a Democrat.

Hmmm... another ad? This seems as though Senator Dole is making use of "...by any means necessary" as espoused and proclaimed by -- (oops!) Malcolm X. Liddy Dole in the same boat as a NOI Muslim? The bigger picture here: this sort of mess is [part of] why many non-Believers shy away from Christianity. Look at what some folks do with Him!

What's happened to you over the years? When I worked on Capitol Hill in the late 80s and 90s, there was NOTHING that my Southern colleagues and me would not do for you (and the former Senator). And a lot of us are Democrats! Where does this mean-spirited bearing come from?

Unfortunately, the republicans would call you names ("Godless," "Socialist," "Marxist," "Terrorist," ...) and fail to understand what you just wrote.

As a Christian, I am so saddened by what this ad has done. It has given many people a negative impression of what a true Christian attitude should be, and it has done a disservice far beyond damaging one woman's reputation and unfairly potentially disadvantaging her in political race.

Mrs. Dole, I will keep you in my prayers. May you soon repent what you have done and make amends to both the individuals and the religion you have harmed. Your ad is a shining example of what Jesus would not have done. Recall His anger in the Temple- when He witnessed people using religion and trade to do harm, to further their own self-interests. There was no stronger rebuke than the one He issued at this sort of behavior.

Everyone has sinned and come short of the Glory, but we are called to a higher purpose. The Bible should not be used as a hammer, but as a Balm.

Nothing in the ads is untrue. She went to the event, she took the money, and if that doesn't bother you, feel free to vote for her.

Either way, the people have a right to know who the candidate associates with and where she gets her money, that's just basically the law.

I personally don't support those groups and therefore cannot support Kay Hagan. No rancor, no invented hystrionics, no wailing about abuses that didn't occur. I just don't agree with those groups and the causes that they advance.

I, for one, am glad I was able to find this out. It impacts my vote.

There is no religious test for political donors, or voters--Dole is being Anti-American in insisting on this fruitless and desperate angle. Dole must be from one of those "anti-American" parts of the country that GOP and Sarah Palin have so helpfully pointed out to us in recent days.

Kay has belonged to the same church that her family has for over 100 years, and is an elder in that church. Dole is showing how shallow her own alleged religious faith is by acting in such a despicable, unChristian way to Kay. If this is all that Dole has to run on
then it is time for the Rest Home Express to Kansas and to winter out her days with Bob. She has clearly lost her moral compass. I am a Christian with a strong faith, and the answer to this question is yes. I have a close friend who is an Agnostic and who does not believe Jesus is the son of God. However, she respects the views of others and she does much good for her community, for her country and for her friends and family. She lives by the values that we Christians espouse. I question whether Elizabeth Dole does after these despicable ads defaming Kay Hagan.

Shame on you JohnFix and anybody who thinks like you.

In your official capacity as a U.S. Senator from N.C., do you represent ALL North Carolinians--the faithful and the faith-free--or only those who share your religious beliefs?

When you accept donations or attend fund-raising events, do you investigate the religious and other affiliations of everyone associated with the event or making a donation?

Do you refuse to accept donations from atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, or other god-free individuals?

Do you believe in separation of church and state?

Why would you not go if "godless" Americans threw a party in your honor?

What is wrong with being "godless" in America? Does freedom of religion not mean that we also have freedom NOT to be religious?

Do you practice bigotry against Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and other religious minorities or only against those who profess no religion?

Actually, I am not sure I AM one of your constituents since I am an atheist Secular Humanist, and I suspect that your answer to my first question is "No."

I hope we consider Dole's comments when voting, and show the country that we are no longer a state in the grips of racism and other bigotry. I'm proud to be from NC, and not proud to have Dole "representing" me in the U.S. Senate. We can disagree politically, but at least we can be decent. Apparently, except for Dole.

Hey now, let's be careful about lumping all "Christians" into Dole's bigot-boat. I think a lot of the strongest denunciations of Dole's filthy campaign have come from Christians.

Time for a couple more of these ads before Tuesday? Advertising costs money, and percentage points, if you're A) totally bereft of any accomplishments, B) morally bankrupt, and C) you have the political acumen of a fourth-grader running for playground bully.

Watching Liddy Dole descend to this level of slime to keep her Senate seat is like watching that guy in Trainspotting dig in the toilet for the heroin.

She's so addicted to Washington, she'll do anything to keep her seat.

Kay Hagan is free to meet with whomever she wishes, and hopefully does not screen attendees at fundraisers by religious creed.

Senator Dole aside from being MIA over the last 6 years when it comes to representing North Carolina, has evidentially not been spending her time reading the U.S. Constitution. I am agnostic, not atheist...does that mean I am any less a citizen than Christians, Jews or Muslims.

The problem with this type of attack is that it would also be used against non-Christians. It points out what is wrong with the religious right - theocracies are dangerous, but the Christian right only sees them as dangerous if they are not Christian. They would be thrilled to have one right here.

I personally think much of christianity is fiction. I do not believe what they profess to believe. That is fine. I do not think they should be hindered in their worship. Nor do I think a politician who talks to non-Christians should then be attacked.

Glad I already voted for Hagan. Dole's ad did inspire me to give the Hagan campaign money. The vote and a donation are two ways to send Dole back where she belongs and has really been over the last 6 years anyway...KANSAS!
