U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole has opened a wider lead.
In a recent survey by Rasmussen Reports, the Salisbury Republican got 53 percent while her Democratic opponent, Kay Hagan, got 39 percent.
The results are almost identical to a survey by the same pollster two months ago, but they show a decline from Hagan's post-primary bump that brought her almost even. Dole's recent TV ads may have also played a role, especially since Hagan is not advertising.
Another recent poll by Public Policy Polling also showed Dole gaining ground.
The survey of 500 likely voters was conducted on June 10. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
