The N.C. Military Foundation spent $12,090 lobbying the state so far.

According to lobbying disclosure forms filed with the Secretary of State, the nonprofit founded by Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue had two lobbyists who worked on state issues.

Executive Director Will Austin made $5,990 in 2007 and the first quarter of 2008, while chief lobbyist Jimmy Broughton made $6,100 in the same time period.

Austin was not paid extra to lobby. Instead, the foundation figured what portion of his time was spent lobbying the state and reported a similar percentage of his salary.

Based on Austin's $72,718 annual salary and his $4,740 lobbying compensation in 2007, he spent about 6.5 percent of his time lobbying the state.

As an outside consultant, Broughton works on a contract, but his reported compensation reflects only the amount he was paid for state work.
