The N.C. Democratic Party wants an apology from Republican state Sen. Jim Forrester for his comments about gays and African Americans.
"Slick city lawyers and homosexual lobbies and African American lobbies
are running Raleigh," Forrester, a Stanley Republican, told Iredell County Young Republicans. The comments from the Tuesday night speech were published in the Statesville Record & Landmark.
"Senator Forrester’s remarks are the lowest and worst type of politics," said N.C. Democratic Party Chairman David Young. "He should immediately apologize to all North Carolinians for his hate-filled remarks. This type of rhetoric has no place in politics today."
The newspaper reported that Forrester believes that President Barack Obama prevented Republicans from performing better in the 2008 elections.
"It brought a lot of blacks out who don't normally vote," he said.
The newspaper reported that Forrester cited Sen. Julia Boseman, a Wilmington Democrat and the first openly gay lawmaker, as evidence of a liberal agenda in Raleigh. Forrester dropped a thinly veiled reference to Democratic state Sen. R.C. Soles as someone who Forrester said is rumored to be gay.
Boseman and Soles do not plan to seek re-election.
"And I say good riddance to them," Forrester said.
The newspaper reported that Forrester noted that he "is not against homosexuals." He said he has gay patients who see him in his medical practice "and I treat them like
everyone else."
Young called on the state's Republican leadership to join his demand for an apology.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are so slick, money, and power hungry, they are out of controll, and a lot of them on both sides are hate filled. Obviously some hide it better than him. Are democratic lawyers so thin skinned that the word slick is offensive to them? Or is that some new racist slang term that is both racist and anti-gay?
The fact of the matter is that Raleigh is controlled by the far left money machine, much of it from out of state sources, and most of it funneled through African American and gay-rights groups. The Democrat controlled government in this state has raised our taxes, run business off, further complicated our lives, and now has us addicted to the federal gravy train which will run out.
