Daughtridge: Moore was grandstanding

Bill DaughtridgeState Rep. Bill Daughtridge thinks Richard Moore has been grandstanding.

The Rocky Mount Republican, who is running for treasurer, said the current officeholder's efforts at strengthening corporate governance are more political.

"I think that's not in the actual job description for the treasurer," he told Dome. "The treasurer's primary job is to make sure that the funds for the pension are well invested and it's fully funded."

As for Moore's work on Wall Street, "a part of it was just political grandstanding."

Daughtridge said he would concentrate on state and local debt. With infrastructure needs growing, he said that the treasurer should make sure that county's debt capacity is not used on less important projects.

"We can’t have everything that everybody wants, so we need to prioritize the use of our debt," he said.

Re: Daughtridge: Moore was grandstanding

I don't call it grandstanding when the Treasurer does his job. Investing our money isn't a zero sum game. Citizens of North Carolina should demand that our Treasurer act as our voice and demand corporate responsibility. If companies do not want to be responsible to the people, then we the people shouldn't be giving them our money. Part of making sure our "pensions are well invested" is making sure we invest money in companies that invest back into our communities.
