Dalton raised $1.3 million by mid-April


Walter DaltonWalter Dalton received $1.3 million in contributions by mid-April of 2008.

The candidate for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor received $431,771 in contributions during the first quarter of the year, according to the State Board of Elections.

Major donors included insurance executive John Q. Beard, Beaver Sports Properties president Donald C. Beaver and Autumn Corporation president Gerald Cox.

He also received $39,666 from political action committees, including the Coca-Cola Consolidated Employees Committee for Government, the Food Lion LLC PAC, the N.C. Dental PAC and the N.C. Farm Bureau PAC.

He spent $781,339 in the first quarter of the year on TV ads, office expenses, mailers and consulting.

That left him with $558,767 in cash on hand.

Ridiculous might be too mild a word for that kind of money being raised for a lieutenant governor position. If the big donors have that kind of money to toss at candidates, then no child in NC should be without health insurance, no child should ever go hungry. Absolutely disgraceful.
