Clinton, Obama name N.C. teams

The Democratic presidential campaigns for Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have named their North Carolina state directors as both teams gear up for the May 6 primary.

Clinton's campaign has tapped Ace Smith to run North Carolina operations. He held the same post in the California and Texas primaries. He previously ran the campaigns for California Attorney General Jerry Brown and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Mark Johnson reports.

Craig Schirmer, who managed Democrat Erskine Bowles' unsuccessful 2002 U.S. Senate campaign in North Carolina, will return to lead Obama's team in the state. Schirmer served as state director for Obama in Wisconsin and played a lead role during the South Carolina primary.

Re: Clinton, Obama name N.C. teams

Please email or call Oprah Winfrey and QUESTION her ALLIANCE with this RACIST church. She needs some calling down on this too!

Re: Clinton, Obama name N.C. teams

Yes I thoroughly agree. It also makes since, in light of these sermons being released to the general public, in Michele Obamas remarks that America is a mean country and this is the first time in her adult life she is proud of her country. Being a member of an afro centric church for the length of their marriage, wanting their children to grow up in a church that preaches hate and anti American values, in regards to Rev Wrong cursing America, saying white America deserved 9/11 and much more is highly disturbing. In my view, for Obama to survive, he will have to quit that church and say he doesnt believe in thos racist views. One last thing, Oprah is also a member of that church as well, very interesting.

Re: Clinton, Obama name N.C. teams

I sincerely hope NC Dems review their choices thoroughly.

I simply don't see the validity of Obama's "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN" or "THE JUDGMENT TO LEAD" slogans. In review of recent revelations about the senator's personal decisions and choices, I see him at best an opportunist that took advantage of a popular Chicago church to advance his political aspirations and career.
At worst, Mr. Obama's choice to ignore the lies, exagerations and racism prevalent in, at least, some sermons as a testament to his lack of judgment and conviction. A church member, doesn't have to be present in the pew to know the content of a controversial sermon. People are far too eager to talk.
If this type of sermon was delivered in total only eight times in eight years, Obama still can't plead ignorance as a valid reason he chose to remain a "celebrated member".

Does Ace know North Carolina?

If not, Dome pundits should offer up some tips for helping him feel right at home in the Old North State. Since Ace may feel that he is not being dealt a lot of high cards right at the outset, he could consider inviting Sen. Hillary Clinton to some of these locales, and I hope you won't label us a "card" for suggesting them:

King -- a community in Stokes County, famous for being the hometown of former Duke basketball star Kenny Dennard.

Kings Mountain, the Cleveland County town which straddles the North Carolina side of the state line by the historic mountain by that name on the South Carolina side.

Queens University -- the up-and-coming regional private university in Charlotte.

Jackson -- the county seat of Northampton County in Northeastern N.C.

Jackson County -- the mountainous county whose county seat is Sylva in Southwestern N.C.

Jacksonville -- In the heart of CArolina coastal country.

Black Jack -- an influential crossroads community in Pitt County.

Seven Springs -- in the heart of Wayne County.

Five County Stadium -- where the Carolina Mudcats play baseball in eastern Wake County.

Four Oaks -- a historic town in Johnston County.

Deuce -- OK, maybe we don't have a town by that name, but there is Duck in Dare County on the coast and Duke, that baseball school in Durham.

And we don't have a place called Wild Card, but we do have Icard out in Burke County in the Western Piedmont.

Shuffletown -- a community in Mecklenburg County.

Oh, and let's not forget the "suits" -- clubs, diamonds, spades and hearts.

Hmm, our other Dome pundits might have some ideas to go along with these two:

Club Boulevard -- an important crosstown artery in Durham.

Heartsease -- a community in Edgecombe County.

Maybe this will help Ace get started until Raleigh's Democratic insiders deal the next round of cards. Off the top of the deck, of course!

Re: Clinton, Obama name N.C. teams

Ace Smith is the best there is. His involvement means the state will be in contention.
