Claude Pope picks up key endorsements in party chairmanship race

Claude Pope continues to pick up support of key GOP leaders in his bid to become the next state Republican Party chairman.

Pope, a former Wake County chairman and a Brunswick County businessman, has previously been endorsed by Gov. Pat McCrory and U.S. Sen. Richard Burr.

This week he won the backing of Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Thom Tillis.

Pope is seeking to succeed former Congressman Robin Hayes, who has announced that he will not seek re-election when the party meets at its convention in June.
