City Attorney: McCrory can use logo

CharlotteCharlotte Mayor Pat McCrory can use the city's logo in some circumstances.

Queen City Attorney Mac McCarley told Dome that Charlotte defends it's stylized crown trademark vigorously, especially for unauthorized commercial and political uses.

But he said that McCrory has not used it improperly so far.

Some Dome readers questioned an e-mail that McCrory sent to supporters of his gubernatorial campaign that included the logo as part of a letter to Mecklenburg County commissioners urging them to "end the madness" and pick a new sheriff.

But McCarley said that the letter related to McCrory's official duties, so it was OK.

"He's still our mayor, 24 hours a day," he said.

He declined to say under what circumstances the logo would not be appropriate for use in McCrory's campaign.
