Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx has opened the door to a possible run for governor, hours after Gov. Bev Perdue, a fellow Democrat, announced she wouldn't run.
"I remain focused on Charlotte and the substantial work ahead," Foxx said in a statement this afternoon. "I will spend the coming weeks talking with my family and friends about how I could best serve our city and state, and I ask the public and media for some patience as I work through those conversations."
Foxx could not be reached today.
He's one of several Democrats whose names have surfaced as possible Democratic candidates.
Foxx's predecessor, former Mayor Pat McCrory, plans to announce for the Republican nomination on Tuesday.

Foxx & staff exposed for threat of retribution
January 26, 2012 - 5:07pm — concerned53Anthony Foxx's Chief of Staff was exposed for threatening to take away Charlotte city funding if they didn't use some of the non-profit's $150k budget so that the Mayor could fly first class to China soon after he was re-elected in November. Another example of entitlement and possible corruption. The Mayor's Chief of Staff was suspended for a whole 3 days but Foxx "claimed" that he knew absolutely nothing about the demand, even though it was specifically for him. Expect a lot more of that behavior if Foxx ever makes it to higher office.
