Burr tops Marshall by 10

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, a Republican, is ahead of Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, one of his potential Democratic opponents, by ten points, according to a poll by the conservative Civitas Institute.

Among those surveyed, 43.7 percent backed Burr, while 33 percent picked Marshall.

The poll, released Friday, surveyed 600 voters by live interviews on October 20 and 21 and has a margin of error of 4 percent.

Marshall and Durham lawyer Kenneth Lewis have declared their candidacy for the Democratic nomination to challenge Burr next year. Former state Sen. Cal Cunningham is considering a run.

Marshall and Burr are both career politicians that need to be sent home.

Time for new faces in the old offices.

Re: Burr tops Marshall by 10

Malleus, are you kidding? Marshall just announced that she's EXPLORING a race a few weeks ago, and she's done little but raise money and send out some blast e-mails to sign petitions and get supporter feedback on the issues. She hasn't hardly hired any staff other than a few consultants. That's hardly campaigning "strenuously." And the idea that she's already 10 points behind Burr, who's way under 50%, should be good news, not bad.

Where is gigglebox? I need his brilliant insight.

It's

If you're going to malign democracy in action, at least learn to spell. And if you're going to defend Do-Nothing Burr, you might want to point something he's actually done besides obstruct what most Americans want.

For a person who hates government, you sure spend an awful lot of time running for office.

Re: Burr tops Marshall by 10

Supporting anyone but Burr means one thing. That you support the filibuster proof majority in the US Senate and it's radical socialist policies.

Re: Burr tops Marshall by 10

Wow, the Democrat primary is solidly underway with the comment: "Marshall may have bitten off more than she can actually chew. She should reconsider her candidacy."

I think calling Marshall a high-profile member of the Council of State is stretching it. If by high-profile you mean that she did not have to sue the state just to perform her job function, then yes. If you mean she has any influence or has done anything in the past decade, then no. She is a competent politician who has a donor network. She's the best the Democrats have right now.

Re: Burr tops Marshall by 10

This poll is a bad result for Marshall who has been campaigning strenuously for months. It is even worse than that - for Marshall has a high name recognition factor because she is a high-profile member of the Council of State, while Ken Lewis and Cal Cunningham are scarcely known at all. Marshall may have bitten off more than she can actually chew. She should reconsider her candidacy.
