Republican Sen. Richard Burr said he opposes building the religious center there.
"I do not support the building of a mosque at Ground Zero,” Burr said in a statement, reports Rob Christensen. “While the proponents of the mosque clearly have a right to worship as they see fit, having the right to do something doesn't always mean you should do it.”
“This is a very emotionally sensitive location, and the proponents of the mosque should take into consideration the feelings of their neighbors including the families of the victims of 9/11,” Burr said.

Case in point...
August 25, 2010 - 8:41pm — SaintPinehurstMM failed to point out that the same Pew survey he cites indicates 51% don't think the mosque should be built near the World Trade Center. 34% are okay with it.
Emphasis added, by the way, so MM doesn't think the sentence in question ends after "built".

Burr is a bigot
August 25, 2010 - 9:54am — MalleusMaleficarumBurr is a bigot demanding that Muslims accept "separate but equal" status as second-class citizens in a new era of segregation and Jim Crowism. Burr is supporting people who are afflicted with Islamophobia -- a deeply seated and irrational fear of Muslims. The latest Pew survey proves that a large majority of Americans support the rights of Muslims to build mosques (62-25%). Burr's opposition to the freedom of religion for Muslims will cost him at the polls in North Carolina come November.
