Burr: Dems shifted health care cost

Sen. Richard Burr says the health care proposal presented by the Senate Finance Committee shifts the burden to taxpayers.

In an interview broadcast Tuesday on Fox News, Burr, a Winston-Salem Republican, said that the plan presented by Sen. Max Baucus is not responsible.

"All they've done is shifted the pocket they pay for it from and in many cases, that's the pocket of the American people," Burr said.

Burr also said that if Democrats plan to pass health care reform without support of 60 Senators, they are miscalculating voter interest in the issue. Such a move would have long-lasting ramifications in the Senate as well, he said.

Less money = less freedom?

Not sure Jesus would go along with that philosophy.

I don't live to answer your every question Paul

You know full well that I'm fed up with Congress on all sides ... but Republican hypocrisy on this issue is truly stomach turning.

Why don't you address the issue of Sue Myrick still being in office taking government funded healthcare when she PROMISED she'd term-limit herself?

So many crooked politicians, so little time.

Re: Senator Burr

James why didn't you address the fact that the liberal US Congress will NOT sign up for the same health care they force on you and me. And when Democrat leaders are asked that question they dodge it.

Hypocrisy Indeed.

Re: Burr: Dems shifted health care cost

Baucus' bill is not deficit neutral in reality. The fines and taxes they will take from insurance companies, normal people like you and me, and from others will be less money avaialable for us to spend in the economy. When we spend less money in the economy, the government takes in less taxes. And when you force more people under the same coverages you have to either get more revenue from either more taxes or a reduction of health care benefits commonly called rationing.

When you have less money to spend as you wish you have less freedom.

Senator Burr

already has no credibility on this issue. He has publicly stated that he doesn't want the government involved in his care or anyone else's ... even as he continues to enjoy the benefits of a Cadillac taxpayer funded health plan.

Demagoguery indeed.

Re: Burr: Dems shifted health care cost

People want something for nothing. I heard on NPR radio today where there was in interview about the "Cadillac health plans" where this lowly Secretary had one of these plans, and her husband's health care costs were over a million dollars last year, and her co-pay was only $500. She was saying if there was health care reform and she had to pay more money, she did not know if she could afford that. Here her husband gets a million dollars in health care and she is complaining about possibly having to pay more than the $500 she had to pay. Health care is expensive, and somebody somewhere eventually has to pay for it. But no - too many people look at health care as a right and expect health care but they don't think they should have to pay for it as they cannot afford it - someone else should pay for it. But if everyone looks at it this same way, then who is going to pay for it???

Re: Burr: Dems shifted health care cost

I'm sorry, but this brief article is misleading. Either the author failed to completely quote the senator or Burr is engaging in demagogery. The statement of opinion contradicts the CBO evaluation of the Baucus bill (which I don't like, by the way) as deficit neutral. Senator Burr must address why the CBO assessment is wrong or he has no credability.

If the author has failed to give a complete accounting of the Burr position, then the article should be updated.
