Burr delays vote on Duckworth

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr is delaying the nomination vote and swearing-in of injured Iraq veteran Tammy Duckworth for a high post in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

His actions angered some veterans groups Friday, reports Barbara Barrett.

"Senator Burr has had plenty of time to ask questions of her," said Jon Soltz, chairman of VoteVets.org, an organization of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, in a statement.
"Senator Burr is only hurting American veterans with this nonsense. He should stop playing petty partisan games, stop needling the White House for the sheer fun of it, and grow up."

But Burr, a Winston-Salem Republican, still has questions about Duckworth's nomination, his office said.

"He's basically doing some due diligence as he does for every nominee to ensure veterans have the best representation," said Burr's spokesman, David Ward. "It's the same thing he would do with any nominee."

Ward declined to discuss what the questions were about.

Air Force Times reminds us of Burr's April Fool's Day Delay

I'm sure our Veteran's got the joke.

According to the AIR FORCE TIMES:

The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee held an April 1 hearing on the nomination, but a confirmation vote was delayed because the committee’s ranking Republican member, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, objected — based on paperwork issues and timing, not on her qualifications for the post, where she will work with Congress, the news media, veterans groups and the general public. That delay lasted until now because the Senate left on a two-week recess before Burr’s questions could be resolved.

Burr, a 17 year lawn mower salesman and staunch advocate of all things that kill our kids overseas since being recruited by Karl Rove in 2004, never served in the military, and presumably does not subscribe to AIR FORCE TIMES.

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

This delay is probably just Burr showing his resentment that his buddy James Peake was dropped from the list of nominees. I think they became friends after Peake was confirmed as Secretary a couple of years ago, and Burr was probably hoping the Obama administration would keep him there.

Which I guess is a natural reaction, but Burr needs to remember his own words from two years ago:

"This is a critical time for our veterans and I hope for swift consideration on the nomination of Dr. Peake. I urge my Senate colleagues not to delay; our veterans need this position filled quickly," Burr added.

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

Oh Gosh by Gosh, there you go again. Richard Burr has always taken serious his responsibility to advise and consent. While both Tammy Duckworth and Max Cleland are heroes who fought for our country and who were seriously injured and they deserve our utmost respect that does not mean that they aren't also partisan hacks. The two ideas are not mutually exclusive. Clevland held up the vote on the creation of the Homeland Security Department because he wanted the workers to be unionized. He put petty partisan politics over the safety of his country. Duckworth ran for Congress but was unsuccessful. I realize Gosh that Senator Burr will never do anything that you like as you are a partisian leftwing liberal. Get a life.

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

You're really bad at this game.

By your own logic, why would a "liberal 527" give $171,760 to Republicans if it's just partisan.

Contributions from this PAC to federal candidates (list recipients)
(86% to Democrats, 8% to Republicans) $171,760

Is it by chance because the ad about Dole preferring nation building to protecting our troops is true?

108th Congress / Senate / 1st session / Vote 376

* Question: On the Motion to Table
* Bill: S 1689
* Vote description: Motion To Table Dodd Amdt. No. 1817; To provide an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.

Dole = YES, and lost for a reason. Same one Burr will. Obstruction.

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

Actually Gosh PlaybyPlay did remember correctly and you assertions are completely off base...

If you can not see that VoteVets is nothing more than a liberal 527 than you are smoking something...

Contributions from this PAC to federal candidates (list recipients)
(86% to Democrats, 8% to Republicans) $171,760

from OpenSecrets.org

Please state why you think that Tammy Duckworth is qualified? I can name a few reasons that she is not. Her support for Obama's proposals on health care for veterans...which the American Legion is against...

And what is wrong with Burr working and helping out the black community in North Carolina considering that Hagan has completely shunned this segment of the community - http://www.wilmingtonjournal.com/News/article/article.asp?NewsID=95385&sID=4

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

If I remember correctly...

You don't.

The petty partisan games are Dick Burr, and Dick Burr's floppings and flailings alone.

He's losing to unannounced yellow dogs, so pretending to be a Democrat once in a while, while stalling Veterans' Care just because the qualified appointee is a Democrat to appeal to the remaining Jesse Helms dead-enders.

I respect people that believe what they say and do, one way or the other. Burr, however, is just a politician.

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

The ad you are talking about can be found below...

This is the same organization that supported the effort for President Obama to find something to do for Max Cleland and Tammy Duckworth.

In case you do not remember Max Cleland and his disingenuous ways, please refresh your memory...

The site list John Murtha as one of their candidates - who is one of the most unpatriotic men in American history...

http://www.crewsmostcorrupt.org/summaries/murtha.php

Let's not forget what Murtha said about our veterans in Iraq...

http://www.military.com/news/article/March-2009/murtha-award-sparks-vet-outrage.html

As far as Tammy Duckworth is concerned, a merely Wikipedia search, shows that Burr has right to question her agenda...

In summary - VoteVets has been a very political group promoting the means of the liberal agenda, yet the attack Burr for asking the questions.

BTW - Has she paid her taxes in full?

Re: Burr delays vote on Duckworth

If I remember correctly VoteVets.org ran false ads against Dole during her race and ran untrue ads against just republicans in the last two elections. I think they are the ones who practice petty partisan games.
