Brad Miller joins New York law firm

Former Congressman Brad Miller of Raleigh has joined the New York law firm of Grais & Ellsworth.

Miller, who represented the 13th district for a decade, has joined the litigation firm as Of Counsel. The firm, formed in 2007, is working on actions against 19 securities dealers to rescind the sale and purchase of of nearly $30 billion in certificates backed by Alt-A and mime mortgage loans.

"Grais & Ellsworth gives me the chance to stay on the side with which my sympathies lie,'' Miller said in a statement. "Middle-class families got hurt coming and going in subprime lending. They refinanced their houses with dishonest, predatory mortgages, and then their pension bonds bought dishonest bods backed by those dishonest predatory mortgages. Representing mortgage investors now is really an extension of my fights in Congress.''

Miller was a member of the House Financial Services Committee, where he lead efforts against predatory mortgage lending and the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Miller would join the Washington-based Center for American Progress as a senior fellow for economic policy.

Miller, a Democrat, did not seek re-election last year after the GOP legislature redrew the lines to make the district heavily Republican. He briefly considered challenging 4th district Democratic Rep. David Price, but decided against it.
