Boseman faces revelations

State Sen. Julia Boseman stuck to business Tuesday.

The New Hanover Democrat declined to talk about disclosures that she defaulted on a $1.3 million loan on her former home and smoked marijuana the year before she was elected to the legislature.

Duringa child custody hearing in December, Boseman testified that she had problems with drugs at the tail end of her relationship with her then-domestic partner in 2003. Details of her financial troubles surfaced at a different court hearing last week. (AP)

Boseman, the first openly gay legislator in North Carolina, said that she willingly testified in order to keep access to her adopted son.

"Some time ago, I was faced with a choice of losing my son or having the most intimate details of my private life exposed to the public," she said. "Like any good parent, I put my son before everything else in my life and will continue to fight for him and my family."

Her Republican opponent, attorney Michael Lee, said he would focus on political differences in his campaign. (WS-N)

Re: More revelations for Senator Julia Boseman

One more thing, I didn't say I thought it was against the law, I asked if it is ethical.

Re: More revelations for Senator Julia Boseman

So you think it's ok for legislators to stay at lobbyists homes? Isn't it the job of a lobbyist to get legislation favorable to their cause? Don't they already have an unfair advantage over the ordinary folk? $$$ Sorry, not me. Check out the W-ton Star News forum for other opinions.

Re: More revelations for Senator Julia Boseman

So what? You think it's against the law for her to room with a lobbyist?

Are you nuts? Are you desperate?

More revelations for Senator Julia Boseman

Below from the Wilmington Star News online forum. Is this true? Is this ethical? Is this standard practice? What say ye Jim Sinsheimer?

BOSEMAN IS STAYING AT A LOBBYIST HOUSE IN RALEIGH--TURN ON THE BIG TALKER -THE CURTIS WRIGHT SHOW!
Boseman is staying at the home of Theresa Kostrzewa-Tucker. It is also the address listed for Capital Advantage Associates, a lobbying organization listing Kostrzewa as the lobbyist representing, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, Hest Technologies, Murphy-Brown, LLC, NC State Optometric Society, News Corporation, Smithfield Foods, Smithfield Packaging, Wal Mart Stores, and the video poker industry.

Senate Bill 2115---Mortgage Crisis/Funds

Talk about a bill for Boseman to co-sponsor...

What a read.

Re: Boseman faces revelations

Sounds to me like Ms. Boseman needs to be defeated so she can deal with her personal problems. She should have known better than to run with these skeletons hiding in her closet. This isn't about so-called "gay issues", it's about personal responsibility.

Re: Boseman faces revelations

A child shouldn't be raised in a gay or lesbian household as it is. Hopefully Lee will clean her clock this fall.

Re: Boseman faces revelations

Liam I agree with your comment about people not running for office, but this goes beyond divorce, custody, etc. Go to starnewsonline.com and read the information that has been posted on the forums. It is not just idle gossip. I believe that there will be an investigation into her finances, removing her name from deeds, buying another expensive house, possibly another foreclosure in the works, a signature on a campaign report, and on and on. But the thing that really puzzles me is the salary reported (around 45,000) and that they can afford a 1.3 million dollar home with payments over 7,000 per month. How is one able to live in that manner on that salary? She should probably write a book on how to afford a home in Landfall.

Re: Boseman faces revelations

Thank you for reporting this. A legislator defaults on 1.3 million dollar loan? Sounds like news to me. I think they vote on this thing called the b-u-d-g-e-t which is some where in the area of 20 billion.

Re: Boseman faces revelations

And you wonder why more people don't run for public office...

This isn't news. It does not even resemble news. Sen Boseman is going through a heartbreaking divorce, fighting for custody of her child. That is about as personal matter as any despite the fact that court records are open to the public.

Just because you CAN report it, doesn't mean you SHOULD report it. I'm about a half-step away from canceling my subscriptions to the N&O and WS-J over this garbage.

Re: Boseman faces revelations

From some of the transcripts of the proceedings floating around the internet, this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better for her.
