Senate leader Phil Berger has raised more than $475,000 this year, in what is likely a mid-year, mid-term record for a North Carolina legislative leader.
Berger, an Eden attorney, also reported $482,000 cash on hand, which is more than he had at the end of 2011 in the run-up to the 2012 election and more than twice as much as had at the same point in the last election cycle.
Berger is the leader of the Republican Senate Caucus and it is his job to make sure the Senate stays in GOP hands.
"Despite what we hear from Senate Democrats and the left, North Carolinians are excited about Senator Berger's leadership and supportive of the common-sense conservative policies he has championed in the North Carolina Senate,'' said Ray Martin, director of the Senate Caucus. "We're confident 2014 is shaping up to be a great cycle for Senate Republicans.''
