Berger blames Perdue

Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger said that Gov. Beverly Perdue has reversed course in illegal immigration.

Berger was criticizing the State Board of Community Colleges' recommendation that would reverse a ban on illegal immigrants entering colleges.

"We all remember how, in the midst of her campaign, Governor Perdue made a public display of her commitment to keeping illegal aliens out of our community colleges even going so far as to ungraciously refer to her opponent as the 'Mayor of Tijuana' in campaign advertisements," Berger said. "Now that the election is over, she has reversed course on this issue and many others."

Perdue remains opposed to allowing illegal immigrants into college classrooms.

"She's made it very clear to the members of the board that she disagrees with this decision and her position has not changed," said spokeswoman Chrissy Pearson.

The governor appoints 10 of the board's 21 members.

And in her radio ads near the end of the campaign, a character suggested that Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory thought he was running for "Governor of Tijuana."

Update: Post now includes comment from Perdue's office.

Leave Bev alone!

I do not think it is fair for Berger to bring up campaign promises!

We all know that campaign promises are just entertainment. What else are they going to do during the long and boring campaign? And it is the media’s fault! The campaign season is now too long and it gets way too much attention. All these political writers and blogs and interviews……it’s just too much. So the candidates have to make up a bunch of stuff to keep the politicos happy.

I thought the reference to Pat running for the mayor of Tijuana was pretty funny. Pat reminds me of one of the actors on Telemundo. (I think it’s the hair.)

Leave Bev alone! All that was said during the campaign should be forgotten once the election results have been ratified. We should all have our minds wiped clean like that flashlight Tommy Lee Jones used in “Men In Black.” Just zap us one time and live happily ever after. "Gentlemen, just focus your eyes right here on the green dot. Thank you."

Campaign promises are like that little green stuff they put on your plate in those fine dining establishments. You don’t really eat it…..it’s just there for show. And that is what campaign promises are……..just for show. Enjoy the show but always remember …….it’s just show business.

Re: Berger blames Perdue

Of course "Bev" the two faced governor has changed her mind on illegals going to the community colleges. She doesn't know how to make a decision and stick with it. I don't know of any important issue she has not reversed herself on within a week. This is why no one with any sense believes anything she says - she goes with how the wind is blowing. By next year she will be allowing illegals to attend the universities at in-state rates most likely and having full access to financial aid. This is just another example of "Bev" not caring about North Carolina.

I hope McCrory calls Perdue Out
