Berger: Perdue moves are "erratic"

Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger on Monday described Gov. Beverly Perdue's recent steps as "erratic."

Berger, borrowing the adjective from a blog posting by former Democratic consultant Gary Pearce, said Perdue had some explaining to do. A week after signing the new budget, she announced 5 percent cuts in state spending but, at the same time, is hiring a new top staffer for $136,000-a-year, Berger said.

"Just a week after signing her budget that raised taxes on every North Carolinian and cut funding for our children’s education," Berger said. "Governor Perdue is admitting that her budget was out of balance."

Here's his whole statement.
