Berger and Tillis helping Jones raise money

Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Thom Tillis will headline Congressman Walter Jones' annual birthday bash/fund raiser in Farmville later this month.

The event which will be held February 24th at The Whitley House is also being chaired by all the Republican legislators from Eastern North Carolina.

The cost of the event ranges from $125 to $1,000

Among the hosts, who are paying $1,000 per couple (or $500 per person) are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bynum, Dr. William Coco and Ms. Brooke McCray, Robert Crocker, Royce Everette Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hinton, Mr. and Mrs. J.Y. Monk III, Retired Major General and Mrs. Hugh Overholt, John Preyer, and retired Col. David Stevens.

Jones, a Republican who has represented the 3rd district since 1994, turns 69 on February 10th.

UPDATE: The support comes even though Jones faces a primary challenge from former New Bern police chief Frank Palumbo. Jones reported having $145,596 cash on hand at the end of 2011, while Palumbo reported having $19,446 on hand.
