Atkinson will ask for pay cut

June AtkinsonJune Atkinson will take a voluntary pay cut.

In an e-mail to Dome, the state schools superintendent said she would ask that her annual salary be reduced by half a percent, in line with proposed cuts by Gov. Beverly Perdue.

"It is the right thing to do since our educators, my (N.C. Department of Public Instruction) colleagues, and other state employees are having to deal with a salary reduction," she wrote.

Under state law, Perdue does not have the authority to reduce the pay of Council of State members like Atkinson.

June Atkinson will prevail in her fight!

Re: Atkinson will ask for pay cut

The story of June Atkinson has become as big an embarrassment for NC as that of Jim Black. Are we not paying two salaries for the job she has.

Re: Atkinson will ask for pay cut

The pay cuts should have been based upon a person's salary with higher paid individuals (those making in excess of $100,000 a year) having to take upto a 5% pay reduction. If they do not like the idea they could always find another job.

Re: Atkinson will ask for pay cut

Hooray for June - voluntarily doing the right thing. How many legislators are taking a pay cut?

Re: Atkinson will ask for pay cut

why not 50% instead of .5% because the governor has reduced her to practically nothing.
