Any questions for Obama?

What would you like to ask Barack Obama?

The Democratic presidential candidate is planning to visit North Carolina this week. We still don't have details on his visit, but we hope to get a chance to ask him some questions about issues of concern to North Carolina voters. We'll try to do the same when Hillary Clinton visits.

That's where you come in. We'd like to hear what you would ask if you had a chance. If we get a chance, we may ask your question. We'll publish the results in the paper and on the blog.

You can either:

- Post your question below. If we want to publish your question - and Obama's answer - we'll be in touch by e-mail to get some identifying information (actual name, age, where you live, what you do for a living).

- Send an e-mail to dome@newsobserver.com. That will enable you to preserve the privacy of your online identity while allowing us to publish your question (with all the identifying information) in the paper.

Re: Any questions for Obama?

Sen. Obama,
If elected, will you fill government posts with *qualified individuals* instead of friends/cronies, people who donated to your campaign, or "important" people who need a job? Qualified people, instead of ceremonial appointments, might make our government function better.
(Witness the FEMA/Michael Brown debacle in Bush's presidency and countless others in that of Clinton)

Re: Any questions for Obama?

Mr. Obama, if the FAIRTAX proposal would HELP the poor people and allow workers to KEEP 100% of their paychecks, while freeing business from tax collection for the government, and would make visitors and ILLEGALS pay their fair share of the tax burden, PLEASE tell us that you SUPPORT the FAIRTAX, which will be the GREATEST RETURN of POWER to the PEOPLE since the American Revolution! Can you imagine the great prosperity that you would return to America? Can you imagine the VALUE to the citizens that you would have??? Then we could turn around all the damage caused by your predecessor, FDR.

Re: Any questions for Obama?

Sen. Obama, I wonder if you have any comments to make on the Illinois leadership legacies of Gov. Adlai Stevenson Jr. and Sen. Adlai Stevenson III?

Senator Obama--

First, I want to thank you for your dignity and for your ability to hang on to it in the moments when you are challenged by your opponent or your interviewers. I am grateful for the tone you have set and maintained in this campaign.

I am 71 years old, a retired family systems therapist. My priority is the reversal and repairing of the serious damage inflicted on the Constitution and on my country by the Bush administration.

When you take office as President, what will you do to restore the constitutional balance of powers in the three branches of government--that is, the dismantling of the "unitary executive" and restoration of their rightful powers to the Congress, to the judiciary, to the states and to "We, the people" that this president has abolished or arrogated to himself via signing statements, secret orders and regulations, and probably by other methods that have been concealed from us?

Re: Any questions for Obama?

Senator Obama,

As a Democratic voter I am pleased that the primary campaign is coming to North Carolina. I have found it interesting that the Clinton campaign recently mocked the idea of North Carolina voting for a Democratic candidate in the general election. Your campaign responded and said you would compete hard for North Carolina in November if elected.

If so, you seem to be following a new organizing strategy for winning, a sort of 50 state strategy as opposed to following the conventional wisdom of the 2000 electoral map that the Clinton campaign seems to endorse. How is this 50 state strategy a model for success for Democrats? Do you believe we're under a new electoral map for Presidential elections or is your campaign specifically re-writing the map?

Re: Any questions for Obama?

Americans for Tax Reform have given you a 7.5 lifetime rating. When I see that Senator McCain’s rating is 82.7, which is a lot better than yours, I have to wonder if your policies are aimed at government handouts – taking from people who have earned their money, and giving it to those who have not.

While I want to pay my fair share; I don’t want to be taken advantage of either.

How would you respond?

Re: Any questions for Obama?

I'm curious how he feels about the recent bail out of Bear Sterns. Does he feel that that government should step in and bail corporations that took chances on high risk notes or if it would serve our people better to help out the people who will lose their homes instead? Has the current administration set a precedent that corporations mean more than the people who for them? Does he have any plans to help re-value the dollar to counteract the current trend of inflation?

Re: Any questions for Obama?

Mr. Obama, did it EVER OCCUR to you, your family, and Oprah Winfrey that you were a member of church pastored by an anti American racist? Did it EVER OCCUR to you all that this man would topple your bid? WHY did you not
resign your membership some time ago?

this is no different than belonging to a country club that doesnt allow minorities.
