State Rep. Cary Allred said he has had a chilly relationship with some of his fellow House Republicans since the April incident involving a House page and allegations of drunkenness.
Most of the written statements given to a House investigator were by Republicans. House Republican leaders wrote that they suspected Allred was drunk that night. Other Republicans said they thought the hug was inappropriate.
Allred said he is considering changing his party registration to "unaffiliated."
"If this is what they think of me, then I don't know how I can work with these people," Allred said.
Republicans sit on the same side of the House chamber together, so they would have been closest to the April 27 incident.
Allred said eye witness accounts are fallible and that those who drew a conclusion that his innocent hug was inappropriate were wrong.
"My point is the eyewitnesses are looking through at the situation through dark-colored glasses with an evil mind," Allred said. "They're not looking at it through rose-colored glasses. They should have because the page lives across the road from me and she's like my granddaughter."

Re: Allred feels 'estranged'
