The Alliance for North Carolina is expected to name at least some of its donors Friday.
The so-called "issue advocacy" group began airing a television ad today criticizing Republican candidate for governor Pat McCrory, David Ingram reports. But little is known about the group, which was renamed from the Pioneer Majority only this month.
Scott Falmlen, a spokesman for Alliance for North Carolina, said it plans to file a statement with the State Board of Elections on Friday. He said the statement was not yet ready Thursday afternoon.
The group has little choice but to file the statement. State law requires it to do so within 24 hours of the airing of a "candidate-specific communication."
The statement should include donations and expenses above $1,000, according to the law.
Update: A spokesman for the Democratic Governors Association confirmed this evening that it gave $500,000 to the Alliance for North Carolina.
