The Alliance for North Carolina has released an economic plan.
The 527 organization, which is running an ad attacking Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory, issued a 12-point plan to improve the North Carolina economy today.
For the most part, the proposals are in line with Democratic candidate Beverly Perdue's platform, though the Alliance's goals are pitched at a more general level.
Among the points of agreement:
Minimum Wage: The Alliance calls for raising the minimum wage "to a level that better enables workers to fully provide for their families." Perdue has called for raising it by a dollar.
Military Jobs: The Alliance calls for expanding the state's "economic leadership" in military jobs. Perdue helped create a nonprofit that lobbies for defense spending.
Free Community College: The Alliance calls for making community college free. Perdue has proposed waiving tuition for graduates of state high schools.
"We hope that public officials and policy makers throughout North Carolina will discuss and comment on our 12-point economic plan," said Alliance spokesman Scott Falmlen in a statement. "Our goal is to stimulate discussion — pro and con — and we encourage people everywhere in the state to join this discussion."
The full plan after the jump.

The Alliance for North Carolina's economic plan:
1. Recruit businesses, create new jobs and retain businesses and jobs currently in North Carolina.
2. Raise the minimum wage to a level that better enables workers to fully provide for their families.
3. Provide economic opportunities to rural areas, small towns and smaller cities so that prosperity and opportunity are available to all North Carolina residents.
4. Maintain and expand North Carolina’s economic leadership in defense, aerospace and national security industries.
5. Build and maintain transportation infrastructure that supports economic growth throughout North Carolina.
6. Boost economic development with targeted strategies for North Carolina’s small businesses.
7. Educate our children, lower the dropout rate, achieve higher levels of academic performance and prepare our youth to enter the workforce of the 21st Century.
8. Provide law-enforcement and public-safety professionals with the tools and resources to serve and protect the citizens of North Carolina.
9. Work with the public and private sectors to achieve affordable, top-quality health care.
10. Keep college tuition affordable for students and their families, and provide free community-college education to qualified high school graduates.
11. Pursue energy independence in North Carolina by investing in energy efficiency and renewable energies, and by increasing energy efficiency at state buildings and in state vehicles.
12. Stop perks for elected officials, including personal travel and vacation trips provided by private entities, and bring greater openness and transparency to government decision making, so that corruption or the appearance of corruption is not an impediment to economic development.

Re: Alliance proposal mimics Perdue plans
"Raise the minimum wage to a level that better enables workers to fully provide for their families." Hmmmmm..... Why not raise the minimum to say, $25/hr. That's $1,000 per week, $52,000 per year. THAT should be livable and make everyone's life better, no? I'm quite sure the concepts of economics wouldn't come into play immediately thereafter, effectively making EVERYTHING unaffordable.... Hmmmmm... Could this be partly why once upon a time a burger, fries & coke cost under a buck at McDonalds and now costs about five?
