New Republican ad ties Kissell to Obama, unemployment numbers

The National Republican Congressional Committee has released a new TV ad tying Rep. Larry Kissell to Barack Obama and North Carolina's high unemployment.

NRCC accuses McIntyre of outsourcing jobs to China in new TV ad

The National Republican Congressional Committee is airing a new TV ad against Rep. Mike McIntyre, who is running for reelection in North Carolina's Seventh District.

The ad accuses McIntyre, who opposes Republican David Rouzer, of "spending billions of taxpayer dollars to create jobs in foreign countries like China."

NRCC spokeswoman Andrea Bozek in a release tried to tie McIntyre to President Barack Obama by pointing to his voting record.

GOP buys $2 milion in air time to take out Kissell and McIntyre

House Republicans have reserved more than $2 million in post-Labor Day television time to try to take out Democratic Congressmen Mike McIntyre and Larry Kissell, according to Roll Call.

The National Republican Congressional Committee's independent expenditure arm has reserved $564,000 in the Raleigh market and $293,000 in the Wilmington market to help defeat McIntyre and help elect Republican state Sen. David Rouzer.

The NRCC has also reserved $1.21 million in the Charlotte market against Kissell. His Republican opponent will be decided in a runoff to held July 17th.

Nationally, the House Republicans have reserved $18.2 million in TV air time, according to Roll Call.

Four N.C. Democrats targeted in GOP robo calls

The National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee began sending recorded telephone messages Wednesday into the districts of four North Carolina Democratic congressmen, criticizing them for their votes on the payroll tax cut.

The robo calls went into the districts of four Democrats targeted for defeat next year, Brad Miller of Raleigh, Mike McIntyre of Lumberton, Larry Kissell of Troy, and Heath Shuler of Bryson City.

“If you're as fed up with Congress as everyone else is, wait til you hear what your Congressman Mike McIntyre did,” said one recording. “Not only did McIntyrle vote last week to pave the way for a tax increase for you and every other American middle class family, but he is now stubbornly standing by his position that could raise your taxes by over thousand dollars starting January 1.”

Andrew Whalen, spokesman for the Blue Dog Democrat PAC, noted that the four Democrats are being attacked for voting the same way as the Senate Republicans.

“The National Republican Congressional Committee will begin bombarding homes with robo-calls, just days before Christmas and on the second day of Hanukkah, peddling their dishonest spin about why millions of America's working families are facing a tax increase beginning January 1st,”  Whalen wrote in a memo reporters.

“Blue Dogs stand with the overwhelming bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate ready to protect working families from a tax increase. House Republicans, their Tea Party freshmen, and commitment to ideology rather than American families are to blame for this looming tax increase.”

Whalen said the calls are also going into districts of Reps. Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania, Ben Chandler of Kentucky, Jim Costa of California and Collin Peterson of Minnesota.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Monday began running robo calls in the district of Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers of Dunn.

GOP goes after "Obamacare" foe

Democratic Congressman Mike McIntyre may have voted against "Obamacare," but that is not preventing Republicans from going after him on the subject.

The GOP will begin making automated calls in McIntyre's 7th district Tuesday, criticizing him for trying to tear down Medicare as part of the Democratic health care plan passed last year by Congress with the backing of President Barack Obama.

“I'm calling from the National Republican Congressional Committee about your Congressman Mike McIntyre's plan for Medicare,” says the recording.

“McIntyre and President Obama's plan threatens to deny treatment for seniors in Medicare by allowing bureaucrats to interfere with their doctors,” the announcer says. “Worse, McIntyre's budget plan lets Medicare go bankrupt – that'd mean big cuts to benefits.”

“Call Congressman McIntyre at 202-225-2731 and tell him to stop endangering Medicare,” the recording says.

GOP sends robo calls into McIntyre and Shuler's districts

The National Republican Congressional Committee Tuesday began making automated phone calls into the districts of Democratic Reps. Mike McIntyre and Health Shuler, criticizing them for  continuing “to spend your money recklessly.”

The calls say that while individuals are tightening their belts, the  two Democrats declined to vote for any of the House Republican budget proposals to cut federal spending.

“Some plans cut a little, some plans cut a lot – (McIntyre, Shuler) rejected all of them. Keeping us deeper in debt to China,” says the message going into households.

Those called are asked to contact the congressmen's office and tell them to get serious.

Both McIntyre, who represents the 7th district and Shuler, who represents the 11th district, live in swing districts that are likely to be targeted by Republicans next year.

NRCC attacks McIntyre in new ad

A new ad paid for by a national Republican group seeks to link Democratic Rep. Mike McIntyre with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the unpopular bailout of insurance giant AIG and unlikely research on chimps. A seven-term incumbent, McIntyre is facing Tea Party candidate Ilario Pantano in the state's 7th congressional district.

Breazeale on Iraq

Will Breazeale thinks the U.S. should draw down military forces in Iraq, but not leave entirely.

The Army reservist, who has served three tours in Iraq, said he thinks the Iraqi military is capable of taking over its own defenses soon, but he thinks a smaller American military presence of around 70,000 soldiers will still be necessary in the long run.

"The way we win is to get out of their way and let them fight their own fight," he said. "But we've got to leave some soldiers over there or we'll be back again."

Breazeale will kick off his campaign for the Republican nomination to run against U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre tomorrow. He said he'll make Iraq a central theme in his campaign.

A longtime Democrat, he said the party's stances on the Iraq war and illegal immigration led to his decision to switch party affiliation in 2005.

He said that he's spoken with the National Republican Congressional Committee about his campaign. He said the national group has "seen the light" and will give him financial support.
