Rasmussen poll gives McCrory double-digit lead in governor's race

Which Rasmussen poll do you believe: The one from last month showing Republican Pat McCrory with a narrow lead in the governor's race? Or the one this month giving him a 13-point advantage against Democrat Walter Dalton?

Most polls don't show the race swinging so widly from one month to the next. The Republican-leaning Rasmussen poll released Monday gives McCrory with 51 percent compared to 38 percent for Dalton with 10 percent undecided.

New poll shows McCrory's lead shrinking

Republican Pat McCrory holds a five-point lead over Democrat Walter Dalton, according to a new poll.

McCrory, the former Charlotte mayor, leads Dalton, the lieutenant governor, by a 46-41 percent margin, according to the Rasmussen Reports poll, a Republican-leaning survey.

The last Rasmussen poll, taken June 25th, found McCrory leading Dalton by a 49-35 percent margin.

The poll found that McCrory has the support of 76 percent of Republicans, while Dalton has the backing 72 percent of Democrats. McCrory has a 30-point lead among independents. McCrory has an eight point lead among male voters, but only a three point lead among female voters. McCrory has the support of 58 percent of white voters, but Dalton has the backing of 78 percent of black voters.

The survey of 500 likely North Carolina voters was conducted August 1 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.

Republican Pat McCrory holds slim edge against Walter Dalton in new poll

SurveyUSA poll released Tuesday shows Republican Pat McCrory with a slight edge on Democrat Walter Dalton, 44 percent to 39 percent.

The numbers, conducted for WRAL-TV, confirms a recent Public Policy Polling survey of voters that showed the N.C. governor's race tightening. McCrory enjoyed a wide lead earlier this year as Dalton faced Democratic primary challengers. But his 5-point lead now just barely exceeds the plus-or-minus 4.4 percentage point margin of error, according to SurveyUSA of likely voters.

McCrory holds 9 point lead over Dalton in new poll

Republican Pat McCrory holds a nine point lead over Democrat Walter Dalton, according to a new survey.

McCrory, the former Charlotte mayor leads Dalton, the lieutenant governor, by a 45-36 percent margin, according to a new survey by Rasmussen Reports, an Asbury Park, New Jersey firm with conservative leanings. The poll found that 5 percent wanted another candidate and 14 percent were undecided. Dalton is one of three major Democrats vying for their party's nomination in the May 8th primary.

The survey of 500 likely voters was conducted April 10 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

McCrory 51, Perdue 47

Pat McCrory is ahead in a new poll.

According to a survey by Rasmussen Reports, the Republican gubernatorial candidate had 51 percent while Democrat Beverly Perdue had 47 percent. Libertarian Mike Munger, the only third-party candidate to appear on the ballot, was not included.

"This is the second straight poll in which the Republican has led his Democratic opponent by four percentage points, after trailing by six in mid-August," the pollsters write.

The survey of 700 likely voters was conducted on Oct. 23, 2008. The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

McCrory 50, Perdue 46

Another poll shows Pat McCrory ahead.

According to a recent survey by Rasmussen Reports, the Republican gubernatorial candidate had 50 percent, while Democrat Beverly Perdue had 46 percent.

Libertarian Mike Munger, the only third-party candidate to be on the ballot, was not included.

"This is the first time Rasmussen Reports has polled the governor’s race since mid-August, and it represents quite a reversal. In August, Perdue held a six-point advantage," the pollsters write.

They note that McCrory leads by 20 points among men, but trails by eight among women.

The survey of 700 likely voters was taken on Sept. 30. The margin of error is plus or minus four percentage points.

McCrory catching up to Dems

Pat McCrory narrowly trails Richard Moore and Beverly Perdue in a new poll.

Rasmussen Reports found that the Republican gubernatorial candidate trails Perdue, 45 to 42 percent, and Moore, 42 to 40 percent, in hypothetical general election matchups.

That's a narrower gap than Rasmussen showed in a poll in late January.

Republican candidate Fred Smith had a larger disadvantage against the Democrats. He trailed Perdue, 51 to 33 percent, and Moore, 45 to 34 percent.

The survey of 500 likely voters was conducted on March 20. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Rasmussen: McCrory ahead

Pat McCroryPat McCrory got some good news from Rasmussen Reports.

According to a Dec. 19 survey of 500 likely voters by the pollsters, the Charlotte mayor would beat both Democratic candidates Richard Moore and Beverly Perdue by a 42-39 percent margin in a hypoethical matchup.

Six percent chose someone else and 13 percent were undecided.

The polling company also found that U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton was competitive against four leading Republican presidential candidates, and that U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole would beat state Sen. Kay Hagan 55 to 35 percent, with six percent unsure.

The New Jersey-based company did the poll in partnership with Fox Television. It did not poll the names of Republican gubernatorial candidates Bob Orr, Bill Graham or Fred Smith, or Democratic Senate candidate Jim Neal.

The margin of error was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
