This event is a little old but we couldn't let it pass without comment. Democrat Elaine Marshall used a unique/odd/interesting (insert your own word) tactic to raise money last week for her secretary of state re-election campaign.
"Today (March 13) is my Mom’s 92nd birthday – and I want to take a second to reflect on everything she’s done for me," the email starts. It goes on to tout Marshall's successes in the office and in the end asks supports to give $9.20 to the campaign "in honor of my mother."
Using a candidate's birthday to fundraise isn't uncommon. But using a candidate's mother's birthday ... well that's a different approach.
