The superdelegates in North Carolina mostly backed Barack.

Here's a breakdown of the state's 19 superdelegates in the Democratic presidential primary race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Is Brayboy a hint on Watt?

Is Joyce Brayboy a hint on U.S. Rep. Mel Watt's thinking?

The North Carolina superdelegate confirmed to Dome today that she will vote for Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention, as reported by the campaign yesterday.

But she said she would rather not comment to the press on her reasoning.

Also this weekend, Watt told the Charlotte Observer that he would make an endorsement, though he declined to say whether it would be Obama or Hillary Clinton.

A Dome reader points out that Brayboy was Watt's chief of staff for nearly a decade and remains close to the Charlotte Democrat.

That led the reader to speculate that her endorsement might be a clue to Watt's thinking on the issue as well. Or it might not. For now, neither are talking.

As we noted previously, a Watt endorsement would be one of five that would matter.

Halperin on Brayboy endorsement

The Time blogger points out that the North Carolina superdelegate and a Mississippi superdelegate endorsed Barack Obama this weekend.

Obama has dominated naming new supers since Ohio and Texas — she has announced zero, zip, nada, none.

MSNBC says that Clinton now has 254 superdelegates, while Obama has 216.

Joyce Brayboy has endorsed Barack Obama.

The Democratic superdelegate, whose day job is as a Washington, D.C.-based lobbyist, made the decision recently.

Previously, she told Dome that she would study both candidates' electability and their stances on health care and education before making a decision.

U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield and two other superdelegates, Everett Ward and Dannie Montgomery, are also backing Obama, while Charlotte City Councilwoman Susan Burgess backs Hillary Clinton.

Joyce Brayboy will decide on the issues and electability.

The Washington, D.C.-based lobbyist, an at-large member of the Democratic National Committee, will be a superdelegate at the national convention.

For now, she's uncommitted to either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.

Brayboy, a public policy lobbyist with the Glover Park Group, served as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Mel Watt for 14 years. She calls Charlotte home, although she currently works in D.C.

She said she will study both candidates' positions on health care and education, though she will also consider their electability before she makes a decision.

"This will be a learning process for me," she said.

Brayboy, who was appointed to the national committee by Howard Dean, has met both candidates over the years, but she says she's been hearing from them in recent weeks.
