Democracy North Carolina says 2008 was the Year of the Voter.

In a year-end recap, the nonpartisan voting rights group says high interest in the Democratic primary and the November elections made this "a banner for voter participation."

Graham supports voter ID

Bill Graham says he supports a voter ID law in North Carolina.

A spokesman for the Republican gubernatorial candidate said that the state could easily add a photo to the voter registration card that citizens already must get.

Aaron Lay told Dome that the so-called "motor voter" law—which allows people to register to vote when they get a driver's license—and the recent shortening of the registration period could make it possible for people to vote fraudulently.

Rep. Moore opposes same-day

Rep. Tim Moore told Congress that same-day voter registration will lead to fraud.

In testimony before a House committee today, the Shelby Republican said allowing citizens to register to vote and cast ballots on the same day would increase turnout at the expense of voter confidence.
