McCrory says Romney would make 'excellent president'

N.C. GOP gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory says former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney “would make an excellent president” and thinks it’s time Republicans started focusing fire on President Barack Obama rather than on each other.

In an interview today with The Charlotte Observer, the former Charlotte mayor said that, after Romney’s primary sweep on Tuesday, “I think we should move on and our opposition should be the current president.”

McCrory wouldn’t go as far as to say that Romney’s GOP opponents should drop out – N.C. Republicans will get to pick among them in the state’s May 8 primary. But he did lavish praise on frontrunner Romney. “I have not endorsed him as of yet,” McCrory said. “But I have a great deal of respect for him … So I think he would make an excellent president.” Read more here.

Mitt Romney to attend two N.C. fundraisers April 18

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney plans to come to North Carolina on April 18 for two fundraisers – a luncheon at the Angus Barn in Raleigh and a 5-6:30 p.m. event at Myers Park Country Club.

The state’s GOP presidential primary isn’t until May 8, but early voting starts April 19 – the day after frontrunner Romney’s visit.

Romney fundraisers are seeking donors to become an "event chair" ($25,000) or a "host committee member" ($10,000). The minimum ticket is $1,000 for the Raleigh event.
