Beason charged with misdemeanor

Don Beason is facing a charge from an alleged road rage incident in July.

The once-top lobbyist was cited with misdemeanor assault for allegedly pointing a gun at a Raleigh couple at a gas station near Cameron Village.

The confrontation happened shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday, July 6th. According to their lawyer, Jason Batten and his fiancee, Chrisy Tellis, upset Beason when they pulled into the station.

He began honking his horn, and when they approached his Toyota truck, Beason waved a silver revolver that was still in its holster, said attorney Steve Glass.

The couple noted Beason's license plate, called 911 and followed him surreptitiously until police arrived. Beason's attorney, former state Rep. Bob Hensley, would not comment on the charges, but he said he's never known Beason to so much as raise his voice in anger.

Beason will go before a District Court judge on Sept. 20.
