Uncle George is back with another fireside chat, er, campaign commercial.

Holding, the much-favored Republican candidate in the 13th congressional district, is airing another one of his "American Stories with George Holding" on local radio stations. (Listen to YouTube version above.)

The minute-long campaign ad tells the biography of  Lt. Mary Roberts, the "Angel of Anzio," just as his previous radio spot told Thomas Edison's story. Together, the stories make Holding's ad camaign is the most (unique/weird/smart) of the 2012 campaign season.

Charles Malone, the Democratic candidate for the 13th congressional district, will host a fundraiser from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Green Room of the Hibernian Pub in the Glenwood South neighborhood of Raleigh.

Congressman David Price will attend and make remarks.

Malone, who lives in Raleigh, will also be campaigning on Thursday in Nashville. No details of that event were provided.

Malone is running against former U.S. Attorney George Holding.

Republican George Holding is a clear favorite for the 13th Congressional District. So instead of telling his story in a new radio ad, Holding spends a minute telling Thomas Edison's story. 

The tie in for Holding's FDR-styled fireside chat: "America was built was by people like Thomas Edison. And that spirit -- not the government -- will rebuild our economy."

In his column this week, Rob Christensen has a new title for the 13th Congressional District Republican contest: the Jesse Helms primary.

The two major candidates Paul Coble and George Holding, are running as sort of the 21st-century heirs to the former U.S. senator and conservative icon. Coble could literally be Helms’ heir, since he is Helms’ nephew. If Coble has Helms’ genes, Holding owes his career to Helms. He worked as an aide to Helms, who got Holding his job as U.S. attorney.
