California Democratic Party will mobilize against North Carolina marriage amendment

UPDATED: North Carolina's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and civil unions continues to get national notice. Now the California Democratic Party is joining the fight against the amendment.

The party's chairman, John Burton, issued a statement Monday that said "it's imperative that we send a clear and united message against all such efforts that seek to divide Americans and enshrine discrimination."

--The state's largest civil rights group, the NAACP, is asking voters to reject what it says is an invitation to discriminate. A prominent Raleigh minister, meanwhile, says that same invitation is an opportunity to strengthen the state's stance against relationships that go against the Bible.
